61 – Boundary training for dogs

Pet podcast #61 features an interview with dog trainer Elizabeth Simpson of Tenderfoot Training and we talk about boundary training for dogs for about 30 minutes. What is boundary training? Most mammals have a sense of personal space and when that space is invaded, tension and problems can arise. Through body language, most socialized dogs will respect the personal space of another dog because they both understand each others verbal and non-verbal cues.

But when it comes to respecting the personal space(s) of humans, many dogs ignore our personal boundaries and invade our personal spaces when we don’t want them to. This space can be our immediate personal space or any space we choose to set boundaries for (like when we are using a kitchen or a bathroom). This pet podcast teaches you how to get your dog to respect your personal spaces through boundary training. (Updated Dec 17, 2014)
