Kitten Development Stages – Pet Tip 249
When we bring a kitten home for the first time to adopt it as a pet, it should be between nine and twelve weeks old. This is so the kitten has a chance to spend time with its mother and so that the kitten becomes socialized with its littermates and learns proper kitten behaviour. But what happens before the kitten comes home? This article will outline some of the important milestones in kittenhood in an effort to familiarize you with some of the stages of kitten development.
Kittens are born blind and deaf and they remain that way for around the first fourteen days of their lives. They use their sense of smell to find their way toward their mothers for nourishment and heat. They really need to stay close to their mothers for these first few weeks as they are unable to regulate their own body temperature. The umbilical cord typically falls off after the first few days of life.

Miss LunaNoel was my Christmas gift in Dec. of 1998. This was Glenn and my first Christmas together and he surprised me with this most beautiful little kitten that had a red cast. Yes you read that right. Glenn and his sister went to pick out Miss Luna and she stayed at his parents house so I would be surprised for Christmas then last on that evening Glenn got a phone call from his sister and he seemed to be upset but he didn't say anything. The next day I was cleaning up our apartment and on the table next to our recliner was some receipts and yup they were receipts for Miss Luna so as soon as he got home I said where is my kitten. The look on his face was priceless and then he said yes we can go see her but something happened and I don't want you getting upset. His sister was sitting at the pc and scooted her chair back and accidently caught Miss Luna's paw and since the vet couldn't tell if it were broken or not they casted it any way. She was and is a wonderful gift to all of our lives.
