Grrrrr....

Okay, this morning I heard of a story about a Black Lab biting a child in the face in Sudbury... for the life of me I can't find the story in print! WHY!??!

There was a 2 year old child and his 11 year old brother playing in a park and they were petting a black lab in Sudbury. The dog got ticked off and bit the child in the face - he's now here in Toronto getting fixed up...

There was a doberman pincher that killed a chiuaua (sp) this past weekend in the GTA.

There was 2 12 year old boys attacked by a GSD about 2 weeks ago while waiting at a bus stop

AND of course the little boy attacked by the Chesepeak Retreiver in the summer requiring over 150 stiches to his face.

WHERE ARE THESE STORIES!!!

*****
Michael Bryant had a young girl - 10 years old that was attacked by a pit bull this summer at his legilsation unvailing this week. The little girl said that she hated the dogs and that they were dangerous (scripted??) BUT a lady was there outside with her 2 pits (or course she was not invited inside) and she stated that Michael Bryant should tell the victims of other dog bites that their bites don't hurt as much and weren't as scary because the were NOT pit bull bites!! - YEAH LADY, that's great!!!

I've been sending letters to people pointing out bites that have not been reported. On Monday, there was a man in Toronto hospitalized after being mauled. But, it wasn't a pitbull, so I guess that was no big deal. Only one station (that I found) reported it.

Me again.

I was just thinking. I do that once in a while.

Does anyone have links or anything to any reports that aren't being widely reported? I think it might be helpful to send those to politicians. As well, if anyone has any contact with someone sympathetic in the papers, maybe we could point this out to them, see if we can get someone to do some investigative reporting into the real numbers, with solid facts. I think, BSL or not, we need to look into why the public perception is that pits are so dangerous and aggressive as compared to others. Just a thought.

Sammiec I think you should send those stories over. Maybe try to find the report somewhere. Add the links...If you can't just tell them about it. Send it all media and MPPs... we got to keep this fresh in there minds... so they wont forget about it,,,,

Here's another article in the Toronto Sun. I'm sure the argument will be that there aren't a lot of attacks listed, but hopefully people will look at it from the view that they didn't know about them.

Still what about all the ones that you mentioned sammiec? They need to know it doesn't happen once a year... It happens everyday in Ontario

I was looking for recent new stories that are pretaining to other breeds. Those date back many years... to when rotties were considered the "evil" breed. What about what's ahppening right under people's noses, right now... and all the attention is diverted to the pit bulls....

is that too ambisious, or should we include all those stories??

Ugh! That really infuriates me!

There was a fatal Scottie attack, that also didn't make a mention in the news. I'm trying to find the article.

On Monday there was a story about a rottweiler attacking another dog in the city , heard it once only and on no other stations .
We all need to get on the media as these stories come to them first and for some reason they are losing them under their desks .
On mojo radio a week ago friday I spoke to John Oakley He pleaded for stories of "other" dog attacks and said that station would report them . In the same sentence he basically said there aren't any . I emailed him Monday evening asking why City got the rotti story but his station did not . There has been no reply whatsoever . I emailed one more time still no response , I do not expect any now.
What can we do to expose these hidden stories of other dog attacks ?

Oakley's an idiot.

The guy's head is so far you know where, he gives himself his own proctology exams by doing a visual. I e-mailed him and suggested he actually get off his butt and do his own research instead of reading headlines. I also suggested when he finally gets around to it, he could answer the e-mail of the person he promised to air the reports of other dog attacks.

I think we should all send him an e-mail. I'm sick of him ringing his bell when he wants to pat himself on the back for saying something stupid.

There's a follow-up on last week's Black Lab story in the online version of the Sudbury Star: Witness disputes dog-bite allegation and there's also an earlier report

After reading the follow-up, I can't help but wonder:Will there be a big outcry of blaming the victim and not the dog? I doubt it.

Sorry, feeling cranky this morning.

Sent another to Oakley , the 3rd I think since he asked me a week ago ffiday for non pit attacks . I told him of 3 that I know of this week and asked if his station and him were following Mr Bryant's lead at only telling the stories that support his argument .

Just had another thought...when is the last time a pitbull killed anyone in Ontario? I may be wrong, but I don't think there has been, at least not in the last ten or fifteen years. Something else to put in my letters....

Angry Well Thanks A BUNCH, OVMA!!

You've probably just provided His Nibs with his next victims list!

I think people should get used to the idea with Bryant that 'Anything you say can & will be used against you'. He just wants to ban/get rid of dogs. If the OVMA gives him stats, i'm sure he'll run with them as far as he can.

Actually, that would be a good thing. The stats are in our favour. The more people who realize this, plus the more people who he ticks off, the better. This is more about a fight against Bryant, or the BSL. We're fighting a bad public image. How many of you have heard in the last couple of months that pitbulls are owned by tough-guy types, or guys on steroids who need an ego boost? Although I'm 5'8 and 210 lbs, I've never taken steroids. And I have no tatoos, or a criminal record (I'm preparing to take my physical to apply to the police next week, ironically enough). My wife is the manager of a major bank. She loves the look on peoples faces when they find out her dog is part pit. But when the dogs do attack, it isn't a lawyer, or doctor, or bank manager or cop who owns it. It's the stereo-typical one.

There was an Akita that attacked a 6 year old boy in Lakeshore about a month ago and the boy needed 40 stitches to his face and stomach. Our evil pit-bull hating newspaper 'The Windsor Star' put this story on the 6th page of the paper, but when there was a pit bull running loose, not harming anyone, it made front page. In, Lakeshore pit bulls are banned, so I emailed my braindead city council of Windsor asking them sarcastically how Lakeshore's pit bull ban protected this boy from being attacked by an Akita? One Councillor responded"It didn't, but our focus is on pitbulls.Yes, I noticed that!!

My parents live in Lakeshore (Comber, actually *shudder*). I heard about that, but by the time it got to me, it was reported as a pitbull. This is getting tiresome...

i agree it is getting tiresome in your country, we have BSL here (aus) for PB and it came in 6yrs ago., but i dont ever think it is right to tout another breed of dog as more dangerous, more vicious or does more attacks, that does not achieve anythign for dogs in general or their credability. and by doing that, when they do bring in the BSL they will jsut add those dogs to their list of next on the chopping block.

food for thought

I should have put LOL after my comments,

I guess. But meant to say just what Melanie has said. We are going to end up with more dogs on Ban lists the more we point fingers. He'll just use everything we say & quote it back to us. (After all he used the big fines & jail time suggested by owners as an alternative to BSL, & Still wants to put your dog in jail too.)
