Bill 132, BSL, and Ontario's future?

The provincial election is days away. I'm surprised that this issue has not been a more major focus of any party's platform. In my opinion, it is probably one of the most major issues on the plate... the dismantling of Bill 132, and Ontario's BSL.

If you agree that the way to deal with irresponsible pet owners is not to destroy pets that "look" a certain way, it's time to get informed about your local constituants, and ask them how they feel about Bill 132. Write them directly, and find out how they feel about the Bill, and what they plan to do about it... if elected.

It will be hard to remove a bill once passed, but hope isn't lost. Obviously, we know where the Liberals stand, who will champion those who have not been able to speak for themselves?

I think it not being a platform for any party speaks volumes.

From some research, I understand that both the NDP and PC parties have spoken against it heavily in session, but it does not tell us whether or not it will be something they will try to dismantle or change in the future... should they be elected.

As long as a strong voice from each riding is present, it may not matter which party they are involved with... provided it is something important to them.

It is definately disconcerting that not one of them has made mention of it yet though.

The mis-guided public perception regarding pit bulls would make this slightly more popular than discussing faith based funding but just. Approx 60% supportted a ban on pit bulls but 81% oppose faith based funding. It's not a winner.

What would matter is that there are some NDP and Conservatives who would seek to amend the DOLA to address dangerous dogs at which time any BSL piece could be written out.

I am not surprised it has not been mentioned but that doesn't mean it isn't something they support.

BTW: During Michael Bryant's term another breed or mix of that breed has been involved in 75% of fatal Canadian dog attacks. He called the breed a non-issue. It shocks me that the press hasn't picked up on the fact that the isiot got it so wrong when stats disprove him. Dangerous dogs not breeds of dogs should be the issue.

Hey all, no it isn't a party platform but lots of us have been working VERY hard to get candidates positions and to be involved in policy development.

I will paraphrase cause I don't have links at my disposal at the moment BUT the DLCC has a blog called WAG the Dog, on it there are various candidates positions INCLUDING the leaders of the provincial NDP and the provincial Conservative partys.

They both have stated that if they formed a government they would either ammend bill 132 and remove the BSL portion or start over.

Ill be back with the links but the Green Party (provincial) is also opposed to BSL.

Bottom line.... DONT FORGET TO VOTE!
