The skin type of Maltese dogs

So, I go to the pet store and the sales person daid to me that Maltese have very oily skin! And that I should wash a Maltese a few times a week. (I was looking at the shampoos, need to get one for my pup)

Do they really have oily skin? I have never seen a Maltese with oily skin before …

A friend of mine has 5 show maltese, retired now. They don't have oily skin that I've ever seen. Washing a pup every week will destroy the natural balance of the coat and lead to over lanolin production which will give the dogs coat a greasy feeling. This salesperson is out to lunch in MHO.

This is what I told her! I don’t know, I just get worked-up every time I go to a pet store and the employees have no idea of what they are talking about …

Yeah, pet store employees don't need much in the way of qualifications or even knowledge... I've never met an oily bichon, but either a breeder or a groomer would be the better person to ask (especially the groomer...).
