Minday is gagging..

Hi

Mindy has been gagging and burping today and her breath smells awful, almost like poop.

She starts gagging and goes on for about an hour and I was wondering if there is some way to stop it?

She has had a few poopie accidents and she might have thrown up in her crate when we were at the store. Is there anyway to calm her tummy down?

Thanks

Worried New Mom

Before you calm her tummy down ~ do you know what she ate before all this stuff started? And, not to be gross, but what EXACTLY does her breath smell like? Just poop or are there other smells in there too?

Could she have eaten some of her own feces? We've got a few poop munchers here and their breaths smell none too wonderful if they managed to find some before I do .

Could she have something stuck in her throat? Was she chewing on a toy, blankie, etc? Could she have been eating grass or chewing sticks? Can you look into her throat?

Aw, poor Mindy! Did she eat with appetite today or is she a bit off her food, too?

I fed her about 15 minutes later i put her in her crate on the main floor while i went upstairs to get dressed. She doesn't know how to climb stairs and I had to carry stuff upstairs. When I came back about 15-20 minutes later she had pooped in her pillow in the crate.

I took her outside.

We left to go to Walmart and were gone for 90 minutes and she was in her crate. When we came back there was gunk on her blanket and on the bottom of her crate. It smelt like crap and she burped and so did she.

I took her for a 20 minute walk and when we got back she started to hack and burp.

Once she at some more she stopped hacking.

No grass chewing as we still have mostly snow here. No sticks, toys chewing and I didn't see any damage to her blankets. There is nothing in her mouth either.

She ate her food, which is about 3/4 cup, (split up into 2 feedings) though the owner didn't know exactly how much she ate as they are free fed. But she was acting like she was still hungry so I gave her a bit more. So today she got about 1 cup.

We have just come in from outside, so I'm taking her upstairs as momma is tired and needs sleep.

I hope she's better tomorrow! It might just be all the changes she's had in the past few days. Her tummy might feel better if you start with 4 feedings a day if possible--give her a few weeks on that and cut it to three meals when she's doing better--then a few more weeks and cut her down to two. After free-feeding for so long, she maybe just isn't used to being hungry.

Did I read in another thread that you gave her a major haircut? If so, the gagging may be a result of licking her fur and pulling up bits of loose hair which then get caught in her throat.

The sick tummy, bad breath and poop accident may be an outcome of something she ate combined with stress.

You can always give her a bit of bismuth (pepto) to coat and soothe her tummy.

Hazel, I think she ate poop. *gag* When she messed in her crate and we were at Walmart I think that is when she did it.

This morning she woke me up, scratching in her kennel, which I think means I have to go outside. So I took her out and she peed..LP I forgot the cookie trick as I was half asleep. Then at 11 a.m. I gave her her food when Tegan gets her's and waited about 15 minutes and took her outside and she pooped!! YEAHHHHHH first time she did it outside.... and I gave her 2 cookies,,,which she liked that alot!

I just took her out again and she peed and I say go pee pee when I take her out too. and she got a cookie for that too. She did try to eat her poop from before when we were outside, so that is why I think she must of done that yesterday when her breath was so bad. *gag me with a forklift*

We came in and I played with her with her wubba,,she didn't know what it was,,,but she finally ran and got it, picked it up and ran into her crate with it. I showed her Tegan's big wubba too.

She loves going on the bed as she goes on her bakc and squiggles all over the bed......too cute! She also loves tummy rubs.

Thanks...I didn't give her a hair cut,,,she was cut before I got her. I think she ate poop...

You're gonna have to keep on top of the poop patrol then, if you have schnacker! We have three!

I keep a supply of non-zipper plastic sandwich bags in my pocket and pick up after the Pack immediately upon deposit. We have a larger plastic bag (the typical WalMart-sized bag, say) hanging outside that we deposit the 'used' sandwich bags into, and when that's full, it's off to the trash. If you resign yourself to it now and get in the habit, it'll be so much easier.

Glad to hear the little darling is feeling better and doing so well on the housetraining today! Tummy rubs

Hmmm, I was thinking of the gagging and burping thing...Remember Mindy was raised on a water battle and not a dish so she may be drinking in air until she gets the hang of it. How is she doing today? And remember her food was never mixed with water so that may be it also. As for the tags, they may fax you the copy of the vaccinations and spay stuff. So she is fitting in pretty good. LOL

Shih Tzu's are little piggies. They love to eat, so be careful with her diet and snacks. (unless you want a chunky monkey) She can have most fruit and veggies. Mine like apples, watermelon and any veggie we are eating.

Hazel, I have a very weak stomach and umm I have to toughen up again. It's been a while since I've cleaned up little poops....do they sell GPS's for those? If I could get her pooping on the driveway there is a shovel I use.

Mindy just finished her night feeding and I gave it to her dry and she burped. But she isn't gagging today. I never thought of the air from the water bottle but you could be right.

she is doing good today. No accidents, she's not afraid of the vaccumn cleaner.. getting more use to the cats,,she doesn't move away from them as much. She's figured out a way to get down our ramp without stepping in the puddle at the bottom....she turns left and goes down the steps, same as Tegan, except Tegan took her a couple of years to figure it out! Poor Tegan.

Yeah Mindy found the cats' food on Monday! So I've had to put them up on the window sills. I had some on the cat tree, but she was going to try and jump from the arm chair onto the cat tree to get at them! Little smarty pants.

We're miserly so we just buy a box of 300 ct fold-lock-top-type sandwich bags for pick up. Turn them inside out over your hand, pick up the doodoo and fold the bag back down off your hand around your 'treasure'.

I don't know if we just don't notice the smell any more, or if our s poo just doesn't stink.

Frency, I'm always nervous the bag is gonna leak and I don't like the squishy feel! But I will get use to it. I know last fall when I started taking Tegan for walks in the park it made me gag the first few times I had to use plastic bags,,,but I started to get use to it. We don't have a dollar store anymore but I have seen those dog bags in Walmart.

You probably go thru 300 bags in what? 2 weeks? And I'm sure your poop doesn't smell.

A dab of Vick's in your nose can mask the smell if this continues to be a problem. TQ.

Ok, now smokin poop is kinda of funny as long as I don't have to pick it up! But if I tried to pick up Churchill's poop I'd put my back out!

I think Grace and I need to start our own club!

Thanks for telling me about that tool, I'm going to go to Crappy Tire, no pun intended and see if they have them here.

I found that if it's a choice between hosing it off my shoe or just religiously picking it up and feeling the smushiness, I'd prefer the latter!

Oh Dear Dawg! poop slides are the WORST (can you guess I have a hill at the back of my yard and i've had a few "incidents" when trying to do a pick up in the dark)

Depending on how much pooping goes on in the yard (Hazel and Frenchy, this advice is DEFINITELY not for you) you can just dig a hole a small hole and bury the poops as they occur, it's quite amazing how quickly it decomposes. I've never dug up an old poop when digging in a new one. Of course, if Maggie is a digger, this isn't good advice either.

I don't mind sliding on it as much as slipping on some and subsequently planting my butt on some more as I land

Ya, I think we'd need a trench, otter.

Catch the poop before it falls get the "sha-poopie"
Evidently even President Obama has one

http://www.coolest-gadgets.com/20091...ly/#more-34740http://www.coolest-gadgets.com/20091...ly/#more-34740

the same website had
  • a poop vacuum
  • A harness that basically holds a bucket to your dogs butt to catch poop as it falls
  • a light up pooper scooper
and some other quite "creative" devices

oh dear, this has gotten a bit i'm sorry

the same website had
  • a poop vacuum
  • A harness that basically holds a bucket to your dogs butt to catch poop as it falls
  • a light up pooper scooper
and some other quite "creative" devices
