Unhappy Poor Pappillons

Yesterday we were visiting friends in Georgetown,a beautiful day!!
Their neighbors have these poor dogs, who have spent their entire 9 yrs of their lives in a dog-kennel,winter and summer:sad:
Apparently it's perfectly legal,Humane Sociey has looked in on them.
I just wonder, how can it be?? They are not outside dogs??
They are 2 brothers, live in that little plastic dog-house,no pillows, blankets or anything....here they are..

The other pup belongs to my friends daughter, she was not still long enough for me to get a good pic
I got hurt againI was going to pet Dakota and she jumped up and got my nose and my glasses,I was bleeding like crazy,my nose is a messoh well poop happens..
I also took a pic of hubbies and my new bikesjust kidding!!
They belong to a young couple that were there, but I love Harleys..

Very sad Chico2. Would they give up these dogs? If so, I can see what I can do.

Poor sweeties. Unfortunately not much can be done for them if they have shelter, food and water I guess.
Not likely they will surrender the dogs. They probably "love" them too much.

What is the use of having a pet if you keep it outside all the time?

What I don't get is that it is against the law to leave a dog or kid in a car either during hot or cold weather, yet something that small is allowed to stay in that little non-insulate house year round?

They can't be in that crate all winter...???
Maybe they have a heater for the winter. Paps are quite delicate.

poor little pets, such gorgeous coats on them, we have a woman here who keeps paps, she has an indoor outdoor kennel (inside heated) and she swears they stay outside most of the time in cold weather, to me, thats not a pet......how do you cuddle with them? Or play with them?

It might be worth noting the good points too....they have each other, they are clean (not matted), the floor is clean, and they are under a shade tree. Maybe these little guys are incontinent? They must be neutered? Now I'm curious.

I believe it's just west of Toronto, so not as fierce as here.

Georgetown is not far from TO. The winters would be just as bad there.

I hate it when people leave their big dogs outside.....it really ticks me off! Never mind little dogs. The poor things, that cement must be so cold in winter and they probably don't put down straw for them to bury in either! GRRrr The people need to be locked in that pen for a few weeks and see how they like it!

As TacoGirl said- why have a dog (or 2) if they are just going to be outside all the time!? Seems like a waste of money to me!!!
poor pups  Did you ask your friends why they have to live outside?

The doghouse you are showing there Chico, contravenes the OSPCA Act, all doghouses must be insulated and raised off of the ground....due to it being summer they probably would not enforce the act, but if by winter it remains the same and an OSPCA agent were to go and inspect, the owners would be issued with orders to improve the doghouse.

The dogs do look like they have been groomed and are in good shape from the photos

Chris,I agree,I said to my friends,it looks like they have been groomed.
The owners are gone for a month, left a teenage son behind and he is supposed to feed the dogs, but often forgets,so my friends feed them.
Their water-bowl was green
I was there once in the winter and the dogs were sitting on top of the dog-house,I did not notice any straw, but there could have been.

I believe the dogs keep each other warm buy cuddling together.
I have never seen the owners, but when the fall/winter comes along,I'll call the Georgetown HS and ask if they would check on the pups again.
They have lived in that kennel for 9 years,I just think it's soooo sad, they are beautiful little dogs:sad:
I don't understand why they have them, would they not be highly adoptable, but maybe not together and splitting them up would be detrimental to them, they love each other.
People,I don't understand them

Someone should forget to feed him! See how he likes it.

That is just amazing. Those little guys must get so cold in the winter! If you are going to have a dog, just to keep them outside, then just get a picture and hang it on your wall! Obviously you just want to look at something cute, but not bother with the responsibility of taking care of it.

Like I said Chico, it is now the law in Ontario that the house be insulated and bedding provided, generally they recommend straw regardless of how warm they keep each other.

IMO - two little guys like that together would be easy to adopt

As for the green water.................lazy kid

All calls to the OSPCA are anonymous Chico, do you know whether an agent has been out there before....if they had in the past, Bill 50 passed into law in March, so before that that house was deemed acceptable.

Chris, don't worry,we don't go there very often, but I would go up there in the winter just to check and then go to Georgetown HS and report it again!!
Maybe I'll even get a chance to see and talk to the owners..

ohh, I misunderstood your OP, I thought that the people who owned these dogs were your friends!!! I was gonna say "some friends..." but I bit my tongue!
Poor pups, I would definitely be making a call to the OSPCA come winter time. Or even now, since they didn't have fresh water!?

Terrible! Their really cute poor buggers. Can't imagine when winter comes.

Pretty much sums it up  Like AG said why not just take a picture and look at it every now and again

I'm sure something would have to be done if HS were called. Even in Quebec (and our laws are below pathetic) animal shelters must be above ground level, ie guard dog houses sit on four tires

Hope you can talk with these owners Chico

It's very sad when people leave their dogs outside like that. Yet oddly they look very well taken care of - go figure that one. I agree that crate would be totally inadequate for winter though. Good luck, I hope somebody can help these little guys.

Well, like my friends, they have about 20 acres,it just so happens the houses are pretty close.
Our friends are in their mid 70's and not that pro-active,but enough to feed the pups when they have no food.
I don't know how trained these pups are,if at all, they bark a lot and wag their tails like crazy when you get close to the kennel.
I just feel sorry for them, they are small, should definitely live in a house, not outside,I honestly don't think any dog should live outside.

they are soo pretty. I couldnt imagine that dogs so small would survive a winter outside?

I have to say though they look well cared for no matts, clean fur eyes etc

I agree they appear to be well taken care of, without matted coats, but Pap coat tends not to mat, but are they really happy outside? Why would someone buy a "companion lap dog" and not let it be happy in the house and cuddling with the owner? I can never understand why people buy dogs and don't acknowledge their heritage. Just as bad as buying a Border Collie and keeping it in an apartment without a lot of exercise. These little Paps crave and thrive on an owner's attention and love to be with owner at all times. I had a Pap once and it was a wonderful little dog. Strange, strange!

In my regular nosy way,I will find out,why they keep these dogs
I don't want to embarras our friends, but if I was the neighbor,I would not be able to watch these pups every day of the year in that kennel.
They are probably not socialized, but when I was there, they bark a lot and their little tails are wagging like crazy.
If you look at the first pic,the pup on the left has something red on his left paw, could be blood,he probably hurt himself on the fencing.

Exactly , why have dogs  and that small of dogs , outside in winter ??? SUCKS !

One of my late golden , Daisy , loved to be outside. I would let her but not as long as she would have wished I want my dogs with me on all times !
