pup question...
okay...i rescued a GSD from the pound several months ago...when she was about 9 months old. i've heard that they have 2-3 yr "puppyhoods."
she has been a PUPPY until recently. at about 14 months, she is better behaved and calmer than most GSD's i've seen...almost to the point that i'm getting worried. shes better than my aunts 2 1/2 yr old (who has been to school and all...) lately i've been working lots of hours, sleeping a fair amt. (8-10 hrs), and busy with other stuff. when i'm home, she isn't lethargic at all, but VERY calm. if i take her outside i can get her going and tire her out, but inside she seems content to lay around as long as i'm relaxing. my question...should i be worried, or is she just 'growing up' faster, and understands more than the typical GSD? when we play, she has a lot of energy, and when we're inside, she'll amuse herself with her toys or sleep. i guess i'm just afraid shes depressed or something, and i'm not seeing it (had her to the vet for another reason a couple days ago and he said she looked great). anybody else have similar exp. with a GSD??? thanks in advance...i know i'm prolly worried over nothing, but its good to have a place to ask!!!!!! here is a 10 min. old pic of her (gently) taking one of her toys from me... |

Hi ! I to have a GSD Female but mines 4yrs old now and some days she dosent get as much of my time as she would perhaps like, However when this happens she has never changed her ways , She is very alert as they typically are but also very very patient ! I wouldnt worry just keep giving yours the loving secure home youve already shown her and I am sure she will repay you twofold with good behaviour and affection !

thanks Stewart! what a beautiful pup you have there!
as much as Reagan can seem sleepy, not a sound happens out of the ordinary that she doesn't investigate! (the more i wrote, the dumber i felt for even asking, but thats what forums like this are for!) |

My dog is like that. He is a lhasa apso/terrier. He is a calm dog as apposed to a puppy. Not a hyper personality. He is a healthy, happy dog. He is 2 yrs old and was always like that.

Den-Den was my wild child - any attention, good or bad, he craved it. I'll admit he had me in tears several times because I felt I was losing my patience and was a bad mommy. He had his terrible two,s and in his three's he did get better. But when he hit 4, he settled down almost overnight and just became the sweet boy I knew he was. I think getting Corky for my Mom was key. Den-Den just mothered him and was so gentle, like a parent dog.

![]() ![]() Wow, Stella is 9 months and I'm tearing my hair out now. There's no way I'll make it that long!!! For examply, left home 9 am, returned shortly after noon hour to see the convertor button completely chewed at both ends (hey, only cost me $25.00 to exchange; and this was the second time) and the couch, well, she is now eating the second cushion. But then again, that's repairable. But, she is priceless and I wouldn't exchange her for a second. ![]() |

You want to be mad but you just can not because you love them so MUCH. We woke up this morning and Justin went into his bathroom and I went into mine and than he yells for me so I go running and the dog had pulled up the carpet in the corner and had chewed it up I was like well look at it this way we were wanting to replace it anyways!!!!

When Stella ate the carpet, I told my husband that the vaccum caught a string and I couldn't stop it fast enough. I was mad enough...so now we have a 'happy carpet' over the spot she ate.

the main thing i've done lately is try to not give her anything to get into, and plenty of bones and toys to tear up and squeak! good luck ![]() |
