Beside Humane Society. Enter off Hurst Way.
Hydro fields.
Open area plus trails through forest.
Probably could use washrooms at Humane Society or Tim Hortons next door.

I had some good luck and some bad luck. There is prey (fox/racoons/squirrels/birds) in the forest that my dog chased and I lost her for several hours.

Walking the trails in the snow is lovely. Or, just let your dog run in the open field.

Cautions: Train track to the north with a plaza on the otherside (my dog chased black birds over the tracks).

Swampy & smelly early spring making it fairly unusable. Wear high boots. Ticks.

partially fenced (wish dog, corporate sponsor or the City of Winnipeg would chip in and complete the fence)

Turn off grant onto Oakdale Drive. Drive in behind the school for parking behind the curling club.

Former golf course a few acres in size. Most patrons will walk the loop with their dogs while the dogs also interact with each other.

I had good luck with this park since I have a dog that likes to wander. She did get into the neighbouring school ground fields a time or two which could be prevented if that side were fenced in. There is also an opening in the northwest corner that opens to Grant. Miss this area by cutting across field sooner.

Overall my dog did well here.

Wide open expanse good for walking, some forest, some open, river.

I had a couple problems so it is important to know potential risks and choose your seasonal weather.

Problems:
1. Dog ran onto river that was thawing. She ran quite a distance towards an open hole. Fortunately she turned around in time. Stopping her was pointless as her prey instinct was leading her to sniff underice fish.

2. Dog jumped in river and couldn't get her feet planted to jump onto shore as there was sticky gumby. Fortuantely, I was able to grab her by the collar and yank her out, but I was rather covered in gumbo when done.

3. A neighbouring farm field was interesting and she wandered off into at lightning speed.

Other than this, we had many other walks that went well. If you have a dog with a strong prey instinct, this is something to think about.

Not an official off leash park, but neither is Kildonan Park, and that was still listed on this site. During baseball season, the park is being used by many of the schools in the area, but off season, the park is pretty vacant, except for geese. Many of the locals bring their dogs here. Not to many inner city dog parks.

Wildwood Arena

Address
Pembina & North Drive (view on Google Maps)
City
Winnipeg
Comments

This ISN'T an official dog park, but some dog meetups & trainers (ie. flyball club) use this spot.

If you have a dog to train, this outdoor arena is grass bottomed and once you close the arena gates is safe.

Of course, you might want to check out other local grass bottomed outdoor arenas that sit unused in the summer. (If they haven't locked them up or the boards been kicked out or removed).

It is located at the end of North Drive beside the Wildwood Community Centre. (Down the road from St. John's Ravenscourt). There are also leash-on walking paths into the forest adjacent.
