The Shining

Directed by Stanley Kubrick The Shining was based on the Stephen King novel of the same name.

Filming The Shining
Shot during 1978 the entire film was made at Elstree, with the exception of a few external location shots by a second unit in Oregon. A full sized mock up of the hotel exterior was built on the backlot. Hotel interiors, and the maze were sound stages built at Elstree.

During the filming of The Shining the set on stage three caught fire causing damage estimated at £1.25M. A previous fire in 1936 at the then British and Dominion studios caused severe damage, which nearly engulfed the entire site and the British International Picture next door. The BIP studios eventually became the EMI studios where The Shining was filmed.

Elstree and Kubrick
Elstree owes gratitude of debt to Stanley Kubrick. During the mid-seventies when other American directors left Britain to escape punitive tax laws Stanley Kubrick stayed to make films.

I heard once that Oregon is America's best kept secret. Supposed to be one of the most beautiful, peaceful, cleanest places to live.

Found another website, it said...

Filmed at EMI Elstree Studios in Borehamwood, England, and at the Timberline Lodge in Mount Hood, Oregon.

oh i just love stephen king, he is a literary genius and one of few. i love all his work. but the movies are good but never as good as the books.

did you know that stephen king has been in most of the movies based on his books? he likes to be an extra but he is in most of them. i cant remember if he is in the shining or where he is in it, but i do remember him from the 'Langoliers' which is one of his finest ever pieces in my opinion. in the Langoliers he is in the scene near the end of the movie where a business meeting appears on a run way, he is the crazy business man that crawls along the table to the main character. its not hard to miss and worth a look.

he has finally just realeased another book in the dark tower series which he has been writing for many years so it has been a long time between drinks, but if you want a good read check it out. have any of you read this one? it just released here so i am only just getting it.

I remember him in I believe the name was Sleepwalkers? I don't remember the role however.
I also remember him in Thinner, he was a pharmacist. And another I remember him as a priest at a funeral... don't know which movie that was though.
Every movie I see of his I always try to find him, like where's waldo!!!
