Animal Rescue Krew (ARK)

I posted this in the Rescue/Adopt a cat/kitten (Montreal) forum as well, but I thought I'd repost it here as well.

Anyone know anything of them? They adopt kittens and cats out of the Petsmart near my house here in Toronto.

After our pup fiasco Adrian and I decided on a kitten instead, and I was just wondering if anyone knew of any kittens for adoption within the GTA. I also wanted to check here about this ARK organization before we decided on anything. If they're reputable, then we will for sure consider them.

Thanks!

-Laura

You can do a search on Petfinder for them. They are located about 20 minutes from me. I keep saying I'm going to call there and volunteer to do their pictures. She doesn't have any pictures of her cats on PF. I think that she has been rescuing for a long time, but I have never met her nor spoke with her.

ARK Animal Rescue Krew

Hi Laura, ARK is an excellent organization! They run totally on volunteers, one hundred percent of donations go to help the animals. I believe that they have found homes for over 1400 cats last year. Vicki

I'm still here and if anyone has any questions in this area regarding dogs or cats just ask.
I'd hazard to guess that ARK is still there or at least an off shoot of it.

I realize the last reply to this thread was a year ago, but I have soem information to share about ARK.

I was recently a foster mom with ARK for a litter of 3 kittens.
I has asked them if the occasion arose that i would need to take them to the vet, would the costs be covered and I was told yes, with no exceptions of guidelines mentioned to me.

One of the three kittens and I became rather bonded and I was thinking of adopting him, but i wanted to delay the adoption till i could make sure he was healthy and nothing flared up. ARK ok'd this. Well shortly after, the kitten i still had developed a URI - ARK provided medication, large pills i was directed to cut up into 12 pieces each and give him one piece a day for 12 days - I am not sure what these pills were or where they came from. I took him to the vet for proper medication after he had a reaction to what they gave me.

A week later he developed some lumps - i emailed them for guidance and they never responded. I was forced to rush him to the vet when he started having trouble walking. In the end he was put down as nothing could be done.

Between the 2 bills i spent just over $400, and ARK has adivsed me they will only reimburse me for $150 stating they do not do tests for their cats (i was actually told i should have just had him put down) and that they have financial arrangements with some vets (again info i was never given). They will not cover the cost of the meds because they had given me some for him.

Even his booster shot and deworming was not given to him by a certified vet or vet tech, but rather a nurse (human nurse).

So thats been my experiance with them. It says right in their adoption agreement that they will not guarentee the health of any of their cats. And after all this, they have asked me to foster again. I will not participate with this group again.
I'm not saying dont get a cat from them, but if you do make sure you get it checked out by a vet right away.

Ark

Actually we do have a veterinarian administer the vacinations for our cats and kittens usually each Friday. We do guarantee the health of our cats --and we have a 60 day return policy if it doesn't "work out". We have an excellent reputation with other sheltter , vet clinics, humane society, pet stores and with past and potential adoptees.

Last year (2010) we adopted out over 1400 cats and kittens - a lot of these are cats and kittens other funded shelters have refused to take in. We operate strickly on donations and adoption fees, we are all volunteers and have an amazing foster program in place. As with any one there are bound to be isolated cases of likely unfortunate misunderstandings .

ARK is AMAZING

Regardless that they're likely not 'perfect' and they can't do everything for every single cat in the world, they are devoted to the arduous task of rescuing, defleaing, deworming, vaccinating, spaying and neutering AS MANY AS THEY CAN.

ARK has been a godsend not only to my cat loving household but to thousands of cats and other people who can't afford to pay the outrageous vet bills to care for all the poor strays who come along and who need and deserve a chance to live a happy, healthy life.

Anyhow, ARK needs support not haters!

Thank-you.
