Are the puppy's coming soon?

My female is at 65 days after conception. 2 days ago it looked like she wet the whelping box. She also was whining and scratching to make a bed. Last night she started spotting the dark green fluid where she has been laying. She has been licking herself non stop for the last two days. Her temperature was 100 yesterday and is also 100 today.........
I thought she would start giving birth soon after the "green goo" appeared??? Am I being impatient?

She needs to see a vet ASAP!!! To the best of my knowledge, gestation is only 63 days. The fact that you found her box wet then and she was exhibiting nesting behaviour seems to indicate that she started labour 2 days ago and has not progressed. That and the "green goo" scream emergency if you want to save her life. Whether or not any pups can be saved only your vet can tell you.

Hi Jimmy. There are very few people here who are knowledgable about breeding or whelping (you should also know that this is a very pro spay/neuter forum). You need to call your vet and/or breeding mentor asap. Whelping does not always run smoothly; it's in the best interest of your dog to treat any uncertainty as a possible emergency. Please call right away and let us know what your vet says.

ETA: the greenish goo is probably meconium...which is basically the puppy's first poop. A VERY quick internet search seems to indicate that its presence before delivery of any pups is a sign of distress and an emergency.

I would skip the phone call, get your dog in the car, and get to a vet now.

Thank You sooooooooooo much for your responses. The vet examined her and her cervix is dialated but no puppy in the birth canal. He gave her a p.o.p. injection to induce labor........ now just a matter of time. If she cannot give birth in 90 minutes or so he is going to do a c-section..........cross your fingers for us and again God bless you for your kind words and help!!! Jim

Thank you for the update!

You might want to talk to the vet about spaying her once she's out of danger...very often, dogs that have a hard time whelping are likely to be in the same dangerous position if they end up pregnant again. I'm sure you wouldn't want that for your pup!

Ok, here it is..............To: all of you so very helpful mothers out there ..... I took "Baroness Reyna Liberty of Pine Creek" back to the vet. at 4:00 pm Central time. Upon opening her up to perform a c-section the Dr. found one of the pups cords to have wrapped around her uterus and had ruptured it. !!!!!!!!!

Wow...........at that time the Dr. was doubtful that any of the pups were alive. He took them one by one and the assistants and I worked to start them breathing........... ALL FOUR PUPS LIVED !!!!! AND ALL FOUR WERE HEALTHY MALES!!!!!!!!!
Not a moment too soon was the c-section performed!!!!!!!!
The Dr. stitched the ruptured uterus and her side up and we brought her home with her 4 lively HEALTHY puppys to give them their first taste of momma's milk!!
THANK'S TOO ALL OF YOU WONDERFUL FOLKS FOR THE IMMEDIATE RESPONSE'S AND WONDERFUL GUIDANCE !!!!
And just in case you wondered .........all of the pups are spoken for by wonderful family's with children and one will even go straight to training to be a seeing eye-dog.
Her first litter some 4 years ago she produced an AKC Grand Champion........
This will be her last litter Bless her heart!
Lucky to have kind folks out there that express compassion and love for our canine companions.
THANKS AGAIN AND GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU !!!

How scary! I'm so glad it all turned out so well, Jim! How are they all doing tonight?

On another note, I hope you're prepared to post some pics of mom and pups soon.

Jim, that's fantastic news: mom and babes are safe and well, hooray!

I'm glad we were able to help in some small way Your girl's safety was our first concern. Thank you for hearing our concern and heeding the advice...I suspect your gut was already telling you something wasn't right, you just needed a nudge to get you moving Glad also to hear that momma will be spayed once she's healthy

The only repayment I personally will ask is MILLIONS OF PUPPY PICTURES (please) GSDs are my favourite breed and I am long overdue for some GSD puppiness.

Oh, feeding well already, wonderful!

Ok, so pics:

method 1: upload them to your flicr or photobucket account, then use the "insert image" icon

method 2: at the bottom of your post, you should see the option to "manage attachments"; you can upload directly from your computer this way, but the file size is limited (I prefer option 1 for that reason)

Do you have a photo editor on your computer that allows you to resize a digital image? If so, download the images from your camera, choose one to post, resize it so that the size is less than 197 KB. Then click on the Post Reply button to get a new reply box. Click on the paperclip icon in the menu, then browse to the resized picture on your machine and click on Upload. You can upload three pics per post.

I'm on dial-up so this is the only way I can post pics. Bendyfoot can tell you how to post from a photo-sharing site if you prefer to do it that way.

When you get into the Post Reply dialogue, you'll see a paperclip icon in the menu across the top of the box--you can either click on that to manage the attachments, or scroll down to the box just below the reply box. You'll see a Manage Attachments button in the Additional Options box.

Very relieved that Mom and pups are all okay.

I've noticed that since I got Windows 7 I don't have to re-size pics anymore....just attach them and it seems to figure itself out So if you happen to have it then the process is much easier.
