Drontal Plus and hyperactivity.

Had to give Drontal Plus to her twice and both times she got really wound up like she was on speed. She's usually an exceptionally mellow dog but she became wild eyed, whiny, and would hardly sleep at night (even though I gave it to her both times first thing in the morning). The second day she got better, and the third day she slept for pretty much the whole day.

Anyway thought I'd add the info. The first time I wondered if somethign else was going on, but the second time it was clear that the Drontal Plus was the culprit. She has never acted speedy like that ever.

Oh, and she also got diarrhea but that was over with quickly. But I guess it is better to have 24 hours on speed than worms...

As far as the diarrhea, if she had some diarrhea (which later resolved) then it is possible that there was a high worm burden (meaning lots of worms). This means that there were a lot of worms that the Drontal Plus killed leading to a bunch of dead worms in the intestines. If there is more than can be naturally digested or they release too much endotoxins, then the pet will have some diarrhea which self resolves.

As to the hyperactivity, I have not seen that at a typical side effect of Drontal; but if you give the Drontal Plus and you have a bunch of worms, then it is possible that for hours to a day - you have a bunch of dying worms in the intestines. This might have an unusual feeling that might 'tickle' the intestines? Perhaps this lead to an excited state? Not sure. Just glad she is feeling well.
