Dogtown - helping Vick's dogs

I just saw a commercial for the new season of Dogtown, which starts on September 5th on the National Geographic channel. They are having this first show about about 22 pit bulls they took in from the Prick, um...I mean Vick seizure.

If any of you guys have National Geographic see if this is playing on the same day for you up there. I think it's going to be a really good program. I'll probably cry my butt off, but I've been wanting to know what happened to these pups. I've been hoping they found good homes and were given a chance.

Thank you for the heads up. I would love to see the follow up on those poor dogs. And I agree about dog fighting.

I truly wish we could put an end to it.

Did anyone see Animal Witness?

I was able to see the Animal Witness series beginning. It began on Sunday night at 10:00 pm on Animal Planet.

I recorded it and just watched it. It was so hard to watch. They had a lot of graphic film from dog fights and I had to turn my head several times.

It was however I think a very positive show in pleading the case for the true nature of pit bulls and how gentle they are. There were some experts near the end from a group that rescues pit bulls in San Francisco and several others who really did a great job at making a point of saying how Pits score higher in temperament tests than any other dog.

I'm very happy they took the time to also show how many of these seized dogs are doing now. I hope this program helps get the message out to so many people who just don't take the time to really learn the truth about these dogs and only listen to lies.

Don't know if anybody outside of BC heard of our recent news item about a fellow here who had multiple pitts and he would take them to parks and let them run free. They attacked other dogs and people several times and witnesses would get the guys licence plate but he always got away. A couple weeks ago they finally caught him and the SPCA seized the dogs. With the owners consent the most aggressive dog was pts, and the SPCA was in court yesterday looking to destroy three more. A pet group got a lawyer and applied to have the dogs given a reprieve to have them evaluated to see if they could be rehabilitated and rehomed. Yay for the judge he agreed to give them eight months to do this. I believe the dogs that are there are quite young, so hopefully the a***ole owner didn't ruin them for good. I'd like to see the owner pts and the dogs given a new lease on life. I was so glad to hear that the judge was supportive though! Maybe there is a bit of light at the end of the tunnel... Sorry I guess it's kinda off topic other than being about pitts huh. But your post about the Vick dogs made me think of this fellow. I'll have to check my TV listings for National Geographic.

I think people need to start looking at the behavior of the animals as something taught to them by their owners.

If you have a child who is a spoiled brat, he wasn't born that way, you made him that way! The same with ANY animal!

I think having people like judges who give these animals a chance are helping to perhaps turn the tide of thinking for these poor dogs.
