Question Old Wives Tale or not

March=Catmonth???
My 3 have been acting strange and a bit aggressive towards each other the past week or so.
Last night while in bed Vinnies ears pirked up and I heard the unmistakable sound outside of either a female in heat or a male getting the scent of a female,so there is my answer why, mine are acting strange..when we take them outside, all they do is sniff everywhere
I saw an orange/white cat last night, one I've seen before,I know he has a home,I opened my window made enough noise so he went away.
I've seen more cats around than normal around here,is there maybe some truth to this Old Wives Tale

Isn't this about the time they all start to make little kitties?

I'm lucky I guess to live on the 4th floor. We don't get those noises.

They usually have their first litter (of the season) in May, so I guess it's about the right time for the mating calls:sad:

Happycats,I don't think that was directed at my boys, they are all fixed.
Today hubby took them out and after sniffing around for a while,Rocky and Vinnie were fighting, not playfighting.
When they went inside,Chico was after Rocky
All's calm now,but they are not going out again for a while, for sure,a looong while..
They are looking and sniffing everywhere, smelling the other cat

Don't you just love it!!! The smell! I have a couple in here that have their little scuffles too. Never lasts for long and then they are the best of friends. But they are basically still babies. Hope it continues.
I was at my dentist's yesterday (abccessed tooth) and of course when talking to the receptionist the subject got on my kitties. She was asking people if they wanted a kitten last year when I was considering adopting some. (We all know how that worked out!) She is fantastic! She might privately think I am crazy but would never say so out loud. Anyway... the other office clerk was there and her comment was why not get the girls done and not worry about doing the boys? How crazy is that? Education time. The smell alone is enough reason. Happiness and health are more......

Onster, yes,I know,I throw pillows at them if they are fighting, from a safe distance.
This morning just the sound of me opening a can made them stop.
The problem is at night, when this cat comes around,I've had to keep my bedroom-door closed and they usually always sleep with me:sad:
I hope this does not last too long..
From now on until this stops, they'll stay inside and we'll play instead, they are not going to like it,but usually they are out with hubby only for a few minutes anyway.

Oh no, it wasn't directed at your boys I just meant the mating calls, and smells are just heating up this time of year, so it seems to make all cats a little nutty.

After I put out my garbage last night, all my cats gathered around me doing the smelling with the mouth open thing. then my boy Jay puffed right up, like there was a strange cat i my house Some cat must have "marked" my garbage

it's not march yet tho Chico.

honestly...i STRONGLY feel it relates to the full moon...AND we just had a moon eclipse. Call me silly but the moon can move the ocean(tides) and i truly believe it affects animals and people.

So that's my guess for that. I'm sure they'll settle down in a few days

they usually sleep. Galloping requires too much effort

...it may not be technically March yet, but critters definitely are going into 'spring mode' i.e. horse's coats grow according to amount of daylight (and not so much the temperature), so they start growing more hair in August, and usually start to shed out around early February.

The toms are definitely on the prowl now, and I agree with the post about the full moon AND the eclipse on Thursday...the coyotes were howling out here, and there was definitely a bit of a 'surreal' feeling .

I guess 'the boys' are just going to have to deal with slightly curtailed activities for a bit, as you said, chico2 . Maybe you can get them watching some kitty dvd's ("The Incredible Journey"??), or doing some crafts?!!

Well,it's good to hear my cats are not all of a sudden crazy
Last night was ok,but they are glued to the window on the lookout, all 3 together
I remember when I was a kid,the horrible howling of cats at a certain time of the year,in those days cats were not fixed, not even our cat.

Here, normally we have one spayed Calico that visits ever now and then, but right now I've seen cats I've never seen before, definetly out on a mission.
There is also a danger,my cats would take off(they normally don't with supervision)would they hear the howling of a female kitty,so they'll stay inside for now.

As for the full-moon,I worked with the public and it always seemed all the crazies were out the day after

Jiorji,no hubby was never attacked by Rocky, mostly because he's smarter than me by staying away, but I am learning

just cause you fixed your kitties They can still smell cant they and instinct take over

One of the reason i like haveung cats is that wild, instinct driven behavior is still there We was had a big neuterd tom cat and even at the age of 14 would still go out of his mind when he smelled a female in heat and get agresive and just crazzzzyyy AN agggresive 16lb siamise mix is relly pretty scary

Giid old blockhead RIP slugger

hummm , no changes in Monsieur le chat but Paddy has been extra this morning I discovered many things that lend me to think he had a very exciting night but there's no cats around my yard .... not that I know of. So maybe , at my house , it was because of the moon.

Last night before going to bed at like 2am, I heard a cat's meow and I saw this black(I think) cat beside this bush thing. It was VERY weird cuz we rarely get ANY strays around here(I only saw about 2 this summer) and I think it had something to do with the moon cuz my friend and I were going to a place and the moon was BIG

Well, things have definetly calmed down and the cats were back in the bedroom with me.
The only animal I saw last night was a Raccoon and they don't bother the cats,it's strange how the cats know the difference, looking out into the darkness.
They are still not going outside for now,it did not bother them much yesterday, they were busy watching us laying a new floor in the livingroom.

Unhappy just adopted 2 new(6month) kitties help older cat not happy!

Hi We have 6 cats, 3 who are 2, have been with us since 3 months, all boys fixed of course, a 4th ,boy 11 months , and the newest 6 months. The new ones fixed 3 weeks ago, have been with us one month. We had kept the seperated for the first 2 weeks, with alot of hissing at the door. We let them out with supervision, all have adjusted except lucky(one of the 2 year olds). As soon as lucky sees them (Max and Cookie) he lunges hisses and claws. We have squirted, distracted, rescue remedied, used pherimone spray, homeopathy, and now seperated the new ones behind baby gates in half the house. Help what do we do, dont want to give up and rehome anyone. any advice would be apprecitated
