Rescued pets

I am a new member & I wanted to share my story as to how I acquired my pointers Julia & Amelia. I was working as a nurse in the community, caring for a lady at her home. The family had a pointer who they kept chained up in their (fenced) yard. They had a large vegetable garden so I guess they didn't want to give her full run of the yard. She was a hunting dog and they called her Julia. The poor dog was just skin & bones. I worked the night shift a lot so I would sneak outside and feed her. She was very friendly, delighted to have someone pay attention to her. As the weeks went on she was looking skinnier & skinnier. I couldn't stand it any longer & told the son of the woman to take her to the vet or I would call the Humane Society. He didn't want the responsibility. He asked me if I could do it! He finally talked to his dad who agreed to give me the dog. The night I brought her home, she willingly jumped into the car. The next day, I took her to the vet for a complete checkup. She had ear mites, fleas and was malnourished. With lots of loving care & attention she regained her health. The vet estimated her age to be two years. That was over ten years ago. Today Julia is happy, healthy and an absolute joy. Her "sister" Amelia was adopted almost three years ago from the Toronto Humane Society. She was featured on Breakfast Television, age ten and a mirror image of Julia. I had never considered adopting another dog but after I saw Amelia I couldn't stop thinking about her. I contacted the Humane Society and arranged to meet Amelia. My husband said the decision to adopt her would be up to Julia! We met with Amelia & her foster Mom at a leash free area in the beaches. The dogs liked each other but the real test would be if Julia would accept her in her home. A few days later, Amelia was brought to the house and there was nothing but animosity between then. I knew then it would be a perfect match! They only had one quarrel a few days later when it was feeding time. Amelia established herself as top dog. Julia actually waits for her to be served before she starts eating her own food! They are referred to as the Pointer Sisters and everywhere we go people ask me if they are twins. They are my pride and joy, my sweet girls.

This picture was taken at my inlaws' house last fall. I have yet to buy a digital camera of my own. When I do, there will be a lot more!
