Crispy chicken wings for dogs?

LOL this is going to be a bit unusual! Crispy wings are yummy and expensive so I don't believe too many people feed their dog crispy chicken wings!


Our relatives own a pizza store and I live very close to their store. At the end of the night there's usually a lot of crispy(breaded) chicken wings left which I have stopped eating(diet!). The wings always ended up in garbage as no one really feels like having them, but I was just wondering, can I use them as treats or occasional food for Lucy?

I know chicken itself is great, but two things worry me:

1. The wings are covered with lots of cooked flour(bread). The flour itself is usually tasteless.

2. The wings are fried in boiling oil and they're usually oily as they come out. Would the oil cause any problems?

Most dogs can't handle high amounts of fat. Boiling in oil also kills most of the nutritional value and adds a ton of trans fats in there too. Overall, crispy wings are things that nobody should eat, even a dog.

...not to mention the little, brittle, sharp chicken bones that can get caught in all kinds of doggy inside places!

lol that's so true! Cooked chicken bones are never ok.. (I listen to the media too much and went straight for the trans fat! )

What if you took the skin off, threw it in the garbage and just gave the chicken as treats. To be extra safe, you could put the chicken in a pot with some water and boil gently for a couple of minutes.

thanks for the replies. Lucy is too little and probably can't eat the bone inside. She'll lick on it forever probably!

But I don't think I'll give her the wings. too much fat.

forget the fat content.... cooked bones splinter. it's a no-no. period.

As rainbow mentioned, I do boil chicken carcasses to use as treats for my dog. When I make a whole chicken for dinner, I boil the carcass (as you'd do for soup) to get the good meat OFF the bones. then I strain it, and pick out the good white meat pieces. all skin, bones, fat, etc... goes in the garbage.
