Sugar and Bones.
I had a lady call me today at the THS, asking me if its ok to put a bit of sugar into her puppy's water...and stated that this is what the breeder recommended since it gives the dog more energy..
Does anyone know about this? I told her absolutely not....sugar is bad for dogs.... ??? Oh, also wanted to ask..when is it ok to start giving a puppy hard bones to chew? Like knuckle bones for example...or anything HARD..I heard it was 8 months..ne one? |

Any idea what breed the dog was? Toy breeds can have hypoglycemia issues, and I've heard varying ways people have delt with it.. All mainly sugar based, but I haven't heard of it being added to water.

I say no. Not for the dog, but for the bacteria. As soon as that water gets to room temp, it's going to be a flurry of bacteria. Bacteria love nothing more than glucose to grow in.
Also, refined sugar is really a crap source of energy. Tell her to feed a better food... Like Solid Gold's Just a Wee Bit. It's made for little dogs with a lot of energy. Just a wee Bit |

I agree with Prin. Find a good quality well balanced food and you won't need to add anything.
