Dog and Degus

My sister is going to Florida for a week around THanksgiving. She asked that I pop in daily to her house to check on her two Degus'. She lives about 10 min drive from me.

I was thinking it might just be easier to bring them to my house to watch them for the 9 days, rather then spending 30 minutes or more going over there every day.

Do you think that would stress them too much? Will our dog stress them out? We would keep them in our bedroom (since the dog isn't allowed to go in there anyway).

As long as they are in your room with the door closed, and Odin doesn't sneak in... ..I see no problem at all....

No way Odin can sneak in, we have a baby gate up there all the time, and he's afraid of the gate, so he doesn't touch it.

I'll propose it to my sister then. I just feel bad leaving them alone for 9 days with only 30 minutes interaction each day.

my daughters had a degu for 8 years and when we went away one of their friends used to come by once or twice during our week away and the degu was fine. our dogs also had no problem with the degu as long as it was caged. the degu had gone to nip our little dog when his nose got to close.

My daughter also has a Degu and it dosen't care about the dogs at all. Mind you he has had a few years to get used to them. I would say, try it out. If you find after a few days its not working out, then you can always take them back home.

My brothers had two degus who lived rather well in the same house as three cats and a golden retriever. All we did was put the cage up higher than the dogs nose and made sure the cage would keep the cats out. They are actually curious little creatures and didn't really hide when they saw the dog, though they would 'beep' when a cat perched itself on their cage.

If I were you, I'd try it, if nothing else, it will be good for Odin to be around something new!
