Unusual Behavior

I have a very disturbing problem with my 25 month old maltese. When I got Cailleach as a 4 week old puppy I had a female Sheltie who was 10 at the time. The two of them did everything together, including going "outside". They "did their business" simultaniousy almost, and came to the back door to come in. There were only very rare "accidents".

Unfortunatly the sheltie got inoperable cancer and we had to have her euthanised last friday. Now it is one week later to the day. The dog daughters have a 25 x 25 fenced compound with stairs down off of our deck. This has been the potty area for the maltese all her life, with the exception that I take her by herself to visit my mom every evening while I do farm chores. She has always, gone to the bathroom over there when we walk to the truck to go home. This is the regular routine for the 25 months.

Now all has fallen apart, she is going in the house, she does not ask to go out, the other dog used to do that for her. I put her out every two hours religiously onto the deck, and watch out the window. She does not even move from the door. This morning I went out with her. We were out there for an hour. I would carry her to "the spot" and she would go back to the door. I had to leave for chores so I put her back in the vari-kennel, thinking she would really have to go when I got home. When I got home at 10:00, out we went again, same routine as earlier, and still no go. I got tired of packing her back to the area so I put a leash on her, still no go after 45 mintes. I put her in the truck and drove over to my mom's to see what would happen. As soon as we got out of the truck, she went pee and poop.

I can't imagine having to drive to the farm every time my dog needs to go to the bathroom. Does anyone have a suggestion for me. I know this is from her missing her freind, but I can't think of how to help her through this. I don't want to have to kennel her in the house all the time. I thought about getting another dog for her also. Any and all help appreciated. Thanks
