Question Off Leash Areas in Calgary?

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post, so I hope I'm doing this in the correct spot, if not, I apologize!

I recently adopted a retired ex-racing greyhound named Elvis, and I'm looking for a fully fenced off-leash area in Calgary that I can take him out to for a run. My back yard is not yet fenced (new subdivision), so he's been turning my living room into a racetrack, and as funny as it is to watch, I'd love to see him get out and rip it up!

My main requirement for an area is that it be fully fenced, preferably no openings other than to get in and out, and even those I would have to block off. I would prefer suggestions in South Calgary, but I'll drive if I have to!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Falconridge

Falwood Way Ne From Falconridge Cr to Falbury Cr NE

This is way up in the NE but it is fenced in. There is 3 openings the size of a gate and basically its a big fenced in field. Ive taken Belle (my cockerpaniel) there a few times and a couple laps around and she was ready to check out the rest of the neighbourhood! The most Ive ever seen is 4 other dogs there, so its not busy at all. If you do decide to come way out here, or find another that you can block off the entrances, pm me and I can meet you there and give you hand blocking enterances! Hope you find one a bit closer to you!

Is that the one on the corner of McKnight and 68th?? That was the first one we took Brick to, cuz we weren't sure how he'd be off leash either!! We are going to be moving close to there in Feb, so we'll all have to meet up there!!!

At the southland off leash park, there is a fenced area, close to the parking lot, with a gate. I've seen several people in there with greyhounds! The fence looks a bit rickety but I'm pretty sure it's ok!

What area do you live in Panda?? I have a full list of all off leash areas in Calgary, for all quadrants. I can tell ya where there is one close to you.

We should start up our Sunday walks again! Maybe at Southland so Panda can join us?? It will be closer for me when we move to the NE and for Sarah and Heinz, but still accessible for Jane and Pami, and Panda!! What do you guys think??? I can't this Sunday, but we could start on the 16th??? Any takers???

Too bad it's so cold in Calgary

You people are so lucky. We don't have any 'official' dog parks in Niagara. Calgary is certainly the leader when it comes to dogs.

Hey Chris! I'm looking forward to the Sunday walks again, but when it gets nicer out. Red would just die if we went out for longer than a pee!

Southland sounds good for us! Panda, if you want help training your greyhound offleash, I can for sure help you out. PM me if you want more info.

Twocats, we are very dog friendly here in Calgary! I've noticed that too. We're quite lucky....

I miss our Sunday walks actually, but you're right, it is too DANG cold out to walk for very long!! Poor Brick is going nuts, so I bundle up, go out to the yard or to the playground and freeze my arse off!!! BRRRRRR!!!!! We'll play it by ear each week, then post if we are walking or not!!! This is WHY I'd like a forum for off leash groups......see my post in suggestions!!!

I counted the amount of off leash dog parks on our list - there are 89!!!! And that is just the "official" ones, I know of at least 3 or 4 others that are off leash but not listed!!! I couldn't believe it!! Calgary is VERY lucky to have so many!!! One of the few places I know that have more than 2!!!

Yep it is on the corner of McKnight and 68th we'll have to meet up for sure! Southland works for us as well, I also miss the Sundays walks, lately we have been going to this one with a fence for about 15mins on saturdays and sundays. Thats about all Belle can handle! Hope the weather warms up and we can meet again soon!!!
