Hi everyone! I was referred here by a friend, and she said you guys are the most informative source for all things animals. I have a little...issue...with my male kitty, and I was hoping you guys might have some insight on the situation.
My babies, Daisy and Fitzy are brother and sister. Both are 2 years old. They were neutered/spayed very early. They are indoor cats, and are in perfect health, and spoiled rotten. They're both naughty...but Fitzy...he's been doing this WEIRD thing! It's SO embarrassing. What he does is...gross. I call it..."humpies." When he wakes up, he's in this dreamy, sleepy state. He ONLY does this when he first wakes up! He'll kinda wake up, open his eyes, and sleepily look over at Daisy, who is usually sleeping next to him. Then...he gets up...still all sleepy with his eyes half closed...and he steps over her back so he's kinda straddling her...and takes a BIG mouthful of her neck in his mouth...and starts...pseudo-humping her. He isn't ANYWHERE near her...um...parts? And he's neutered, so it's not a problem that he'll do something totally gross, but it's seriously disturbing. And she just sits there and kinda goes, "Ehhhhhh" like she's saying, "Get OFF of me!" And I have to pull him off of her. It's so WRONG! What can I do? Do any of you with pets have this problem? The weirdest thing is, he doesn't know what he's doing! He'll sometimes straddle her back, but he'll be up near her hips. Or sometimes, he just STANDS on her back and bounces his rear end up and down, like he's dancing or something. The only thing I can think of is that she's the dominant one...she's bigger than him and when they play/fight/play-fight, she's always the one kicking his ass. Maybe he's trying to dominate her? But how come only after he first wakes up? That is so WEIRD! I don't know what to do...my mom is taking care of them while I'm away for a few days, and she said she was in their room and they were sleeping, and she was petting Daisy, and then Fitzy woke up and sleepily climbed on top of Daisy, and my mom was like, "OMG GET OFF!!!" What should I do? I will ask my vet when I get back...and maybe consult a cat behaviorist...but this is just too disturbing. I need to know if I'm alone! All suggestions/advice greatly appreciated! |

not a cat expert but
We had a male cat for many years. He used to do that to a blanket in a kind of dreamy state. It seemed to comfort him. We didn't bother to stop him. He was in perfect health, just a habit he had. So, no you aren't alone. Not much comfort though I'm afraid. The cat experts will help you out! Good bunch of people.

MPJ,we've had a lot of people asking this question and what your cat is doing is perfectly normal, please do not punish him for it!!
Most cats will do this,neutered/spayed,either to a blanket,a stuffed toy or whatever takes their fancy... You have to think of neutering as a vasectomy(in human males)it does not diminish the sexual drive,it just makes the cat unable to make kittens. I have 3 male cats all neutered, but two of them get at it the same time every day,my third cat has a favourite blanket he uses for a girlfriend ![]() There is no harm, unless he hurts the female..so do not be alarmed or disgusted,it's definetly not abnormal or aggressive in any way...let them have their fun ![]() As you know(maybe)dogs favourite girlfriend is usually someones leg, which is probably worse and more embarassing,so,please leave the cats be,,if it gets rough use a little mist-bottle with water, that will break them up ![]() Also please inform your mom that there is nothing unnatural in what they are doing and not to get too excited about it!

I just have one cat, a 15yo spayed female so I've never experienced this. However, don't teenage boys (human) sometimes have this little problem when they first wake up? Don't have any kids either so not an expert of that either! Erotic dreams?

Thank you for the advice, guys! I think the reason I get upset is because Daisy, the female, REALLY doesn't like it. She meows weirdly and then will hiss at him to get off, and this usually sparks a tussle between them, resulting in one or the other getting all puffy and upset.
![]() Well...that and the fact that I think of them as my babies...and yes, I realize they're animals, but still, you know? I just feel like I'm watching something...I shouldn't be seeing. They both do the whole "mush-mush" thing on particular blankies, but that seems to be more of a comfort thing for them. Why do you think he ONLY does this when he's just woken up? ![]() |

I've seen neutered male cats do this but the all time champion at it was my neutered bunny. I fianlly bought my bunny a plush bunny (one of the beanie baby buddies- whiuch are larger than the beanies and almost are big as my Dwarf Netherland bun was). The two - bunny and play bunny were inseperable. If I had not done that, he would have continued to hump my sock (with my foot IN it), the beagle, a large stuffed decorative bunny thing my mom had made that hang on the door, anything that looked promising. My male poodle - who later lived with my grandparents - and I did not have the heart to take him back (I had gone to univ and plus, I could ALWAYS see him) - also tried to hump things after he was neutered. (But he was never as ambitious as my rabbit!!)
It's pretty normal! |

MPJ,Believe me,my cats mean the world to me,there is no such thing as"just an animal"in this Forum.
I just wanted to add, since your female gets really upset about this,it probably is a good idea to help her out,I know I've had to do that a few times with my Chico, when he gets upset over Rocky...a little light spray will quickly end Rockys amorous feelings ![]() But there is no need for a vet or an animal-behaviorist,what Fitzy is doing is perfectly normal ![]()

Thanks again, guys. I'm really paranoid when it comes to my babies. One sniffle, one sneeze, and I'm at the vet!

My neutered male has been humping my female cat since she was 8 weeks old. She never protested until lately (she's a year old now) He got the message.
![]() I've had MANY male cats, all neutered, and can't recall of them who didn't get the "urge" at one time or another. |
