Pug problems

Hi,
I have a 11 week old female pug. She is absolutely adorable but has been having a few troubles. I have taken her to the vet twice and the first time they gave her antibiotics to clear up a stuffy nose. The second time, they told me she has a backwards sneeze. She basically does random choking and coughing. She does it more at night though when she is in bed. But, it's like she is trying to bring something up and nothing comes up. It sounds disturbing and horrible though. Does anyone have any recommendations or experience?
She is an extremely playful pug and runs non stop. She eats a lot (like all pugs) and drinks, poos and wees normal. It's just the cough/choking.
Any help will be much appreciated.

If she has reverse sneezing,(I have 2 that do that and it still freaks me out) I tilt their head back and rub their throats, or blow into their faces. It stops when I do this. Sounds a lot worse than it is. When I took one of mine into the vet, she had an episode there that was so bad that he heard her in his surgery. He can out to see what was happening. That was when we learned what it was...

Reverse sneezing is pretty common in pugs, of my 9, 2 do it intermittently. It can be aggravated by allergies as well, sometimes food and some by environment same as people. It is not life threatening, and not much can be done.

Since she is only 11 wks, you can get your vet to check for elongated soft palate, also very common in pugs. That restricts the amt of air available, and makes any sneezing whether allergy or otherwise that much worse. Sometimes you cannot tell on the palate without anaesthesia, and either way I would certainly have it looked at when you have her spayed or before. I had one male pug that had so much breathing troubles, we had laser surgery on the palate at 10 months, and he already had some damage to his trachea. Since then he has been perfect, snores less as well, and it has been over 10 yrs.
