I have a 1.5 yr old female chihuahua who has been really congested for a couple of months now. It seems to all be in her head, not chest, but she really wheezes, especially at night.
Our vet has treated her with allergy medicine (temeril - 1/2 tab 2x/day), and for infection with clavamox and orbax. Still, no improvement. I even tried a tiny bit of sudafed last night, but she didn't do well on that. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks! PS...He says her trachea, etc. are fine. |

I'm sorry, I have no idea what is wrong with your dog. You might want to take her to another vet for a second opinion - sometimes that does the trick!
I just have to caution you against giving human meds to a dog without vet approval, especially such a tiny dog. |

Thanks. I may have to do that. And I DID check with the vet before giving the sudafed.

my little shih tzu has the same problem, our vet said that sometimes puppies do that but it is nothing serious and they really don't have an answer for that... I noticed that my puppy's wheezing get worse when it's cold... I say don't worry so much if your vet says she is ok, she probably is!!!!

Thanks! Does your puppy act like she feels bad? I'm wondering if all the medication is just making ours feel worse. With the vet's permission, I'm going to try to wean her off all the medicine and she how she does!

I've suggested to other people before who's pets have some sort of viral/bacterial infection that is persistent to try oregano oil.
Just a couple drops a day and boil some in a pot on the stove, keep the dog in the same room for about 20 mins. It's properties are known to kill the most resistent of virus/bacteria and has been used to rid of fleas as well. Do not use the drops directly in your dogs mouth, they are condensed and will burn. MIX it with something, a little yogurt maybe or some apple sauce.

Thanks! I have also heard that garlic tabs might help. I have picked up some of those but will try the oregano oil as well!
