Corneal Ulcer- Need advice from your experience

Hello All-

I took my dog, Oxford, to the vet about a week ago because it was obvious there was something wrong with her eye. Found out she has a corneal ulcer. He gave me two eye ointments to use: Atropine sulfate and Chlorenphenicol. I've been applying the Atropine two times a day and the other one 3 times. Her eye doesnt seem any better. In fact, it seems a little worse. She keeps it shut all day (i read up that they do that due to sensitivity to light and/or the pain). The swelling has not gone down either.
Anyone know how long it will take before her eye gets better? or if anyone has any experience out there with this, I would like to know what happened.

Thanks!

-Kristina

My Tyra has had a few of those nasty ulcers. They hurt. If your baby is still closing her eye, it means the ulcer has not healed. Take your baby back to the vet for a eye stain, so he can really see what is going on. Poor baby must be some hurting right now.

We had a stubborn corneal ulcer here this fall, too, OxyMK. Eventually, we saw a veterinary ophthalmologist who reabraded the area and gave us an antibiotic ointment and NaCl ointment to reduce edema. The eye was better within 36 hours.

If it's been a week and you've seen no improvement, another vet visit is in order--if your vet thinks it's warranted, he'll be able to refer you to a veterinary ophthalmologist...but some vets are trained to do the microabrasion themselves.

Hope Oxford's eye is better soon! :goodvibes:

Thank you for the advice! My husband is going to take her to the Vet tomorrow. She's not her happy self and it has us a little worried. I hope it hasnt gotten worse.

I'll keep you updated.
