We really want to adopt a young dog into our family! We're hoping to find a small, short-haired dog. It would also have to be good with kids and other animals as we have a 3 year old daughter and a 1 year old cat. From everything I've read an italian greyhound or beagle sounds like the best breeds for us! We don't care if its PB, actually i think we would prefere a mix. We live on vancouver island so anything in bc would be the best. :) You can e-mail me at jaggedlilmegz@hotmail.com Thanks again! Megz

Hi megz! Italian greyhounds are extremely small, delicate, nervous and fragile and are definitely not a good pet for a small child.
A beagle would be much better. I suggest you go to the following board - it's a BC rescue board and I'm sure someone will know of a beagle needing a home!

LuckyRescue is right about the italian greyhound. I have one and she is very sweet but i have to keep an eye on her because SHE doesn't even realize how fragile she is. They are known for jumping off beds or couches and breaking legs. she also plays hard with our other dog but he is an exceptional dog because he is always very carful with her and never gets rough. a beagle does sound like a better choice. also italian greyhounds tend to attach to one person and not like strangers very much. mine would never bite a person but she doesn't like to be petted by stragers especially children, for some reason she just doesn't like them. my vet also told me that italian greyhounds are very often scared of people they don't know, so it is common.
