chico2 November 16th, 2009, 01:06 PM Baileys owner called me today, telling me no use trying to get Bailey outside, she cannot walk:sad:
Apparently she has a very painful back-leg won't put it down and it's painful to the touch.
She was fine friday:confused:I have my suspicions, but hope I am wrong..
She has not been to the bathroom at all and must be in pain from that too..I suggested I'd take her to the vet,but the owner has an appointment after work at 5;30.
Bailey needed a vet yesterday, she's in pain..
I don't know what I can do for her,I'll try to carry her in to the backyard..any suggestions???
Bailey_ November 16th, 2009, 01:10 PM May I ask why you have suspicions about the injury? Are these owners fairly rough with her?
Poor Bailey.
I'd just try keeping her as comfortable as possible right now. If she's in pain, chances are she's become consitpated too.
When our Bailey hurt her leg at the DP we just put warm towels on her that were right out of the dryer. Might be worth a shot to keep her comfortable.
Poor thing!
chico2 November 16th, 2009, 01:14 PM Bailey,that's a good idea,I'll try that...as for the suspicion,I can't say..maybe it was an accident,maybe she was just shoved out of the way...
I don't think they abuse her,the mom loves her.
I'll go over right now and check on her..
Love4himies November 16th, 2009, 01:20 PM Oh no, poor sweet Bailey. :grouphug:
Sending some :goodvibes::goodvibes: her way.
rainbow November 16th, 2009, 01:30 PM Chico, I'm sorry to hear about Bailey  ....we all know how much you care about her. :grouphug:
Warm towels are a good idea or even a heating pad set on low or one of those popcorn or rice filled bags that you heat in the microwave will help if she will let you do that.
Also, you can give her MSM if you have any.
JanM November 16th, 2009, 01:35 PM If you have some traumeel on hand you could give her one tablet right away. Traumeel is a holistic anti-inflammatory, pain med - works wonders for any trauma - humans or animals!
Poor little thing - I'll be praying for her!
ancientgirl November 16th, 2009, 01:43 PM Chico, I wish Bailey was more loved by her whole family, not just the mom. I hope she gets better soon.
Bailey_ November 16th, 2009, 01:44 PM Keep us posted Chico!
chico2 November 16th, 2009, 01:46 PM Well, she's better than the owner described, she had peed in her bed so I changed that, then she came outside in the back for me and she pooped a whole lot:thumbs up
She runs on all 4 at times but mostly her leg is up,I touched her carefully and she did not yelp.
I think she'll be ok,I'll see what her vet says tonight:fingerscr
I gave her a handful of treats and kissed her bye,she seemed happy, what a relief:pawprint:
bendyfoot November 16th, 2009, 01:54 PM Glad she's not too bad...but I wouldn't try to give her ANY medication, herbal or otherwise, until she's been seen by the vet...if she needs Rx meds for any reason there could be contraindications (I learned this the hard way when I gave Jaida asprin for pain...it turned out to be not strong enough to help her but it prevented me from being able to give her other Rx pain meds, had to wait a week until it was out of her system.)
rainbow November 16th, 2009, 03:07 PM Glad to hear Bailey is doing better ....hopefull she just pulled a muscle and it's not a torn ligament. :fingerscr
Re the MSM ....it is not a medicine, drug, chemical or herb. It's part of the sulpher family and is available in supplement form to help relieve pain and inflammation. It also occurs naturally in the foods we eat but disappears when we process our food.
Melinda November 16th, 2009, 03:10 PM chico, would it be possible that she has a "knot" in her fur? She is a cocker right? and I know my inlaws cocker use to get stubborn tangles on the inside of her back leg and would cry out and try not to walk on her leg till I'd cut it off.
ancientgirl November 16th, 2009, 03:13 PM Hopefully the vet will give her a clean bill of health. Maybe she just had a cramp and pulled something.
chico2 November 16th, 2009, 05:03 PM Since she is not my dog,I would not give her any kind of meds,I am hoping it's just a sprain or something.
When I talked to the owner, she described it as something much worse and I worried:sad:
Melinda,no she has no knots, her fur has been clipped recently:dog:
We'll see what's wrong, the mom takes her to the vet at 5:30,hopefully she'll call and let me know.
A-G,I wish so too,but the kids are teenagers,no time for a pup and the father is not an animal-person,the mom is great, but works long hours.
Bailey_ November 16th, 2009, 05:29 PM Maybe she just had a cramp and pulled something.
I agree. It's pretty common in dogs to pull or sprain things. As long as there isn't any swelling and she (soon) starts to put a bit of pressure on it, she should be okay. The vet will be able to determine more.
Keep us posted Chico!! :thumbs up
Love4himies November 16th, 2009, 05:40 PM Oh, chico, I am so glad he is doing better. I hope it is just a sprain that he will recover from quickly  :goodvibes: :fingerscr
krdahmer November 16th, 2009, 06:11 PM Oh poor Bailey! Hope she heals up quick!:goodvibes:
erykah1310 November 16th, 2009, 07:33 PM The title of the thread had my heart in my throat. I am happy she is doing better.
Frenchy November 16th, 2009, 08:51 PM
I'm glad she was doing better Chico2 , and that the owner is taking her to the vet. Let's hope this is only a small injury :fingerscr
hazelrunpack November 16th, 2009, 09:26 PM Poor Bailey! Have you heard what the vet found, yet, chico?
:goodvibes: for continued improvement! Give her a hug for me next time you see her, k?
growler~GateKeeper November 17th, 2009, 04:01 AM Hope Bailey is alright now :goodvibes:
Love4himies November 17th, 2009, 08:31 AM Did you get any updates from Bailey's owners last night, chico?
chico2 November 17th, 2009, 08:47 AM L4H,no I did not,I guess she figures I'll see for myself,maybe she'll call me when she gets to work this morning:confused:
Bailey did put her leg down ever now and then..
aslan November 17th, 2009, 09:01 AM hey Chico2 almost sounds like when qman hurt his leg..if she was putting some weight on it, it's probably just a sprain or pull and will take a little time to heal itself. I found with q if we gave him a little massage before walking him it helped alot.
Golden Girls November 17th, 2009, 09:53 AM oh the title scared me, glad Bailey has you to look out for her :goodvibes: she's better today
14+kitties November 17th, 2009, 12:02 PM Sending lots of :goodvibes::pray:ers for Bailey. I hope she's feeling much better today!
chico2 November 17th, 2009, 12:25 PM The mom called me from work, the vet bent Baileys knee and there was a clicking sound:confused:and it could just be age,Bailey is at the most 8 yrs old.
Anyway, the mom was really worried and said Bailey should not walk too much.
She's going back to the vet in 10days.
I'll see how she is today, maybe we'll just stay in her backyard so she can do her stuff.
Hopefully she's better,she loves her walks,stops to sniff every 2 minutes:dog:
ancientgirl November 17th, 2009, 02:52 PM Maybe she's got arthritis. I hope she's feeling better today.
rainbow November 17th, 2009, 02:58 PM When Chase had clicking sounds in his knee (first one and then the other) it was because the meniscus had slipped. You could hear the clicking when he walked. I hope this isn't the case with Bailey. :fingerscr
chico2 November 17th, 2009, 05:01 PM When I came in,she jumped out of her bed, full of beans,I took her for a short walk and she was fine,no limping:thumbs up
I hope it's not a meniscus problem,I think that's what the vet was concerned about,I had just forgotten the word.
For now she's ok,so we'll see if it comes back.
Love4himies November 17th, 2009, 06:13 PM I am glad she got out for her walk today. I really think that is something she looks forward to everyday with her "stepmom" and "stepdad" :lovestruck:. I hope her leg issue is all cleared up now
Frenchy November 17th, 2009, 09:29 PM ohhh I'm so glad to hear Bailey's better :thumbs up
