Dog forcing herself to vomit?

I think my dog is trying to force herself to vomit. She sounds like shes coughing or chokeing, and then she tries to eat anything she can on the floor. I make her stop then she pulls me to go outside and starts eating grass like crazy. Why would she be doing this? I feed her RAW prey model if that helps.

Is this something I should take her to emerg for? She's done this before.

How long has this episode lasted, Akira? Is she sitting hunched over between heaving episodes? Do you think it's possible she's suffering from bloat or twisted gut? If so, the E-vet is a must--bloat and twist can kill a dog quickly.

Akira, I would take her to DMV immediately. Do you have the address?

Sorry, I thought you were in Montreal :o.

Yes, please get her to a vet.

I'm pretty sure she doesn't have the stomach type to twist. She's not really heaving, its more like a hack, or choke. She heaved twice and was hunched over when she did that. She just came back inside and shes fine now.. BUT my boyfriend let her in and said when he opened the door she was drinking out of a small pool of stagnant water. That can be really bad, can't it?

Akira, even raw fed dogs can get sick and all dogs can suffer bloat and torsion (some breed types are more prone). There could be a bone stuck somewhere or she could have had a batch of bad meat. It happens.

LP is right, Akira. One of the main symptoms of GDV is unproductive vomiting. If the stomach flips, it can cut off the main blood and nerve supply to the stomach and cause death -- sometimes in as little as 20 minutes. So if the heaving and discomfort continue, please take her to the e-vet.

She's perfectly fine now, playing with the other 2 dogs. I'll bring her into work with me on monday and have the vet take a look at her. If she starts at it again I'll definitely bring her in.
