Do I need to take my dog to the Vet for this? or is it normal?

I just adopted a sharpei-heeler mix last weekend, he is around 3-5 years old, and we have not yet gotten him neautered. But lately he has been snorting and sneezing, and has a yellowish discharge coming from his sex organ.
Is this normal from being a stray and at the humane society for so long?
is there anything i can do to help him?

thank you!

any time a person adopts a new pet from anywhere it is best to go to the vets for a complete check-up. they will be able to advise you what is normal and what is not.

better to be safe than sorry. :thumbs up:thumbs up

Sounds like a visit to the vet is in order. It would be a good idea just to have your dog out. It may be an infection. But it would be nice for the two of you to start off with a clean bill of health. Good luck let us know how it goes and welcome to the board

Snorting and sneezing are the primary signs of kennel cough. I would definately get this checked ASAP. It is easy to regulate the following with meds if it caught in time. As for the discharge, it could be an infection which is also easy to treat.

I highly recommend a vet check up. It is difficult for shelters to regulate all illnesses or viruses due to the magnitude of animals received that were not adequately vetted by previous owners.

Keep us updated.

(PS - thank you for saving a life).:thumbs up

It does sound like kennel cough which is common in shelters. He definetely needs to go to the vet, and keep him away from other dogs and areas that are frequented by dogs because it is very contagious. Good luck with your new buddy and I would love to see some pics! Sounds like an interesting mix!

thank you all for ur advice!!

i also attached pictures of him (teddy) and my other dog sugar.

What a beauty!!!:lovestruck:

If it is kennel cough, it is important to have the intra nasal bordatella given every year. This will protect your dog from this 'cold' if he/she comes into contact with one that is infected. Because I take in fosters, I ensure that my dogs are protected from this virus.

Again - your pup is simply gorgeous.

Saturday should be ok, but if you notice him or your other dog getting any worst tonight or tomorrow morning I would try and get him in sooner :thumbs up

Very cute pups. Thank you for rescuing. I agree Saturday should be fine assuming nothing gets worse. It's good to get a vet file going on him anyhow even if he isn't sick - gives you and the vet a starting point to work from in the future.
