And he's whining about that ???? He should count his good fortune none of us were there. Bleeding and cuffed would be the least of his worries. The dog reportedly does have brain damage, the extent isn't yet known.

I wonder how this poor dog is doing now? I still hope this guy gets what he deserves one day! I really do think that what goes around comes around! I also really hope that the Animal Control Officer does not get charged! He deserves a commendation not punishment!

Why would the Animal Cruelty Investigator (not Animal Control Officer, there is a difference) be charged?

ACV's have the authority to break a car window, if the animal is in immeidate distress. This rotti was. This dog was almost near death. The ACV did everything right.

he handcuffed the guy to the car and left with the dog....leaving the guy there to be assaulted....which he deserved....but i'm sure thats not standard proceedure.

I didn't hear this. Sorry. The only reason why I can think he did what he did was because of the dog's condition. I am asuuming he called police and that they were on their way and that he could not wait around for the fate of the dog.

Still, yes I agree I don't think it is standard proceedure. I don't think he will get penalized for it, considering the cicumstances of the situation as a whole.
The guy left his dog in a car in extreme heat for hours.

Now, yes he was assulated, but i feel the judge would have felt he deserved it. He knew his dog was in the car and he certainly knew how HOT it was outside. By him doing this act, he can be charged under the criminal code of Canada under section 446 subsection 1 for willfully causing suffering to an animal.

That is exactly what happened! The SPCA officer felt he would loose the dog and he knew the police were on their way! He also left him with 5 females! guess they did not help their poor friend!

Anyway about the charges..that could be just rumour..I have not seen anything further about charges??

Hi Cindy,

It takes quite a process to lay charges. We will probably know within a few weeks. Odds are he will get charged.

That is just truly SAD!! I would have done the same thing!! I guess thats why I am not an Animal Control Officer..My heart would be broken every day! I would want to do some serious things to some people!

This jerk will get what he deserves one day!

There will be no charges laid o the humane officer that handcuffed him. What he did was for the best fate for the dog. The police were 2 mins away, and the guys buddies were there. It was on ctv news.

The ACI handcuffed the jerk to his vehicle because he was 'jeopardizing the rescue operation and was threatening the safety of people at the scene." The investigator handcuffed the man to his vehicle to 'neutralize' the threat.
I know this ACI and several others at the THS and they take their jobs very seriously. Their top priority is ALWAYS the animal. This jerk deserved what he got and then some.
I had the opportunity to visit Cyrus in the clinic on Friday night. At first he was very unresponsive but when the other dogs started barking he perked up a bit and he was following us with his eyes but did not respond to his name. At this time they still don't know the extent of the damage caused this beautiful animal. There is a progress report on the THS website and while they say 'they are very encouraged with Cyrus' progress so far, they will keep him under close observation for at least another week before they are ready to comment definitively on his medical condition.'
Cyrus' owner has been charged with animal cruelty and he will NOT get Cyrus back.
Please keep Cyrus in your thoughts and prayers.
