My dog has been on glucosamine tablets for a few days and seems to have an upset stomach. I give it with food. For her weight she should take a whole tablet, I'm thinking about dropping it to 1/2 tablet. She has always been senitive when taking any pills. What do you think, any suggestions?

I would start her over again with just half and if possible, can you grind it up to put in her food? taking it with food may help the tummy

I will try that. For some reason she has little appetite in the summer.

What kind of dog is Ripley? Our dogs also tend to eat less as it gets warmer out.
Melinda's idea of a half dose is a good one. The "glucos" part of glucosamine is a sugar component. Added sugar in the gut can cause gas and discomfort. Our dogs always start out...well...a bit flatulent :o when adjusting to a dose of glucosamine. Once they adapt to it, we up it a little more and eventually they're at the recommended dose with no discomfort.
Good luck with Ripley! :fingerscr

The big breeds do tend to not eat as much as it gets warmer. I think the big bodies store more heat--harder for them to cool off.
I'd love to see a picture of Ripley! Have you posted any, yet? :D

My senior samoyed has a sensitive stomach as well. I had success with 1/2ing her dose of glucosamine & condroitin then gradually increased until she got the full dosage. Glucosamine & Condroitin has really helped her. She is 12 1/2 and acts like a 5 year old. She is currently on ArthriSoothe Hip & Joint Formula Natur Vet(liquid formula). the results are amazing.
Hey even the U or Alberta Faculty of Dentistry recommends glucosamine & condroitin for patients with TMJ disease. :thumbs up :D
