My sister and I each got a kitten last year from the same litter. We are now moving out and each want to take our cat with us. They've never been apart before. Will it be too traumatic for them? I've heard that because she's so used to being with another cat I'll have to buy another one when I move out. Is that true?

give it a trial run them being apart thay may do just fine. give them lots of attn etc etc. i wouldnt rush in to getting another cat (if you had someone close to you go away you wouldnt just replace them right?)
just because your cats have a close bond to one another they may not have the same bond with othr cats.
i would try solo first if still lonely maybe look in to a second cat

I lived with roommates in university, and four of us each had a cat. Two (mine included) were brothers, and their mother was another one (my roommate found her - stray and pregnant). The other cat had been brought into the house as a kitten, so they all pretty well grew up together and lived together for about 3 years. We all went our own ways eventually, and everyone seemed to do just fine. I did get another cat for my guy Solomon after I moved, because he really enjoys the company of other animals, but I never got the sense that he missed or was looking for his old buddies.

Dart seems to be missing Leo and Pawz (from Becky's reports) and she did get him a playmate but the playmate is annoying poor Dart. Leo and Pawz don't seem to wonder where Dart is though...*shrugs*
