GORGEOUS Akita X looking for a home

Inverness

Akita/Husky cross needs a home now - 2 years old - will be neutered before
being placed.

Owner died.

Excellent temperament: Assessed by a professional trainer as "no alpha dog
in him, he is a follower and submissive."

Was raised as a house dog with kids, including small baby but not a toddler,
also a cat.

Body structure of an Akita but blue eyes of a Husky. Outstanding looking
dog. Not oversized and quite athletic looking.

This dog can be shipped to the right home and has been needing a home for
approximately one month. He currently resides at the Clarenceville SPCA in Newfoundland.

It would be a shame to let this fellow linger any longer and he would certainly fill a home with joy.

hmm are you SURE of the parents? akita x husky crosses have prick ears, not dropped ears (2 prick-eared breeds pass on the gene 100%). my bet is the parents are not pure, could be crossed with lab or some other drop-eared dog. Could be good to find out as much info as possible, as breed traits can lead to specific character & training issues (forwarned is forarmed).
hope this handsome gentleman finds a home!
oh and any idea why he was SHAVED? you NEVER shave akitas nor huskies, their coat protects them against the elements

The info came on a discussion list with a request to cross-post, which I did. Since I have not met the dog, I cannot tell you more. However, I believe this dog was assessed by a trainer so we do have an insight on his temperament.

I was told his family kept him shaved at all times to try and reduce the hair in the house... (no comment).

Being such a handsome and good-natured dog, I bet he will soon find a family. The sooner the better !

some people are morons!! can't stand dog hair in the house, well, don't get a dog! oh i'M sure he's a wonderful dog, what a beautiful expression he has. i only wanted to point out that i highly doubt he's an akita-husky cross, he looks like a lab x husky something or other, maybe rottie husky... point being, if one doesn't know the parentage and there is a need to take an educated guess, perhaps making guesses that make sense would be better for the potential adopters... so they know more what to expect... i dunno if i'm explaining what i mean, LOL! sorry :o

Rottie Husky ?

Well why not ! ;)

Maybe we should have a "Guess the breed" thread for him... ;)

He IS gorgeous, huh ? I wonder what his coat looks like when it's fully grown...

just thought of something, he could be crossed with a long-coated akita, which would explain the tufts on the ears... still IMO they should be pricked and not so huge and golden retriever-like

any news on potential adopters? :)

He may be part Akita, I have seen a few purebred GSD's and a husky with the drop ear, something about the cartlidge in the ear being weakened, I also knew a pure GSD with one drop ear after a small child kept grabbing it!

This dogs ears look like half drop half stand up!!

yeah, it's possible for prick eared dogs to have their ears drop. I did some research on how to ensure the ears stay up when i got my new puppy who's ears couldn't decide what they wanted to do.
