Lucky Rescue October 20th, 2005, 11:05 AM I'm Doonesbury, and I'm about 11 months old. We aren't sure what I am but I could be a Papillion x JRT/Spaniel(??) I"m about 12lbs and won't get much bigger.
My owners decided to starve me to death, and I was nearly there when a nice person rescued me. But when she fed me, I aspirated the food into my lungs, got pneumonia and nearly died. The doctors thought I wouldn't make it, but I fought hard to stay alive! I had to stay in the hospital for a long time, but I'm feeling just super now and am ready for my permanent home!
I am housetrained, crate trained and very very smart! I like cats, and other dogs and all people, in spite of the cruelty they did to me. I also love to run like the wind, chase balls, ride in the car, and going for walks is my very VERY favorite!!!
Would you like a cute and fun little companion? If you would, I'm your boy!!
Check back here for my "After" pics!!
**To adopt Doonsebury, please PM me for contact info****
Dogastrophe October 20th, 2005, 12:37 PM he looks like a real cutie. I hope he finds a great home (and hope that down the road he gets the opportunity to neuter the piece of crap that treated him like that)
Lucky Rescue October 20th, 2005, 01:20 PM This li'l guy was just at my house, and he is too precious for words. Outgoing, perky, sweet and too cute! He's still too thin, but healthy now.
The lady who is fostering him spent megabucks to help him recover from this:
Roxy's_MA October 20th, 2005, 01:44 PM Thank goodness for his rescuers!
CyberKitten October 20th, 2005, 01:54 PM Amen to that Roxy! Poor little guy - I am glad to hear he is on the road to recovery now tho!
Toonces October 20th, 2005, 02:16 PM aww the poor little dear, hope he finds a great forever home soon.
doggy lover October 20th, 2005, 02:46 PM He takes a licking and keeps on ticking. He sounds like a perfect pup why would someone treat him like that? I don't think he will have any problems finding a forever home who really loves him.
K9Friend October 20th, 2005, 02:47 PM Feel better soon lil' guy! :grouphug:
Prin October 20th, 2005, 02:54 PM He looks like a cross of Cavalier King Charles (if that's the order of that name). Personally I'd advertise him as such because they're pretty in demand... JMO.
He looks so soft and adorable. Thank you to the person who took care of him. A huge thank you.
mesaana October 20th, 2005, 06:24 PM OMG!!! I'm not a little dog person, but this one... I'm trying hard to hold back and not ask if he could become Romeo's new friend...
This is sooo hard! I don't know what to do!!!

Do it!!! Yey!! I was gonna say that too, but I didn't want to tease Lucky. Go for it!!
Lucky Rescue October 20th, 2005, 07:32 PM I PM'd you the contact info. Just go meet him! No obligation! :D
One thing for sure, if I didn't have Chloe, I would have adopted him on the spot today.
He is just the most charming little creature you've ever seen. He has long hair on his tail and it curls over his back like a little shih tzu! So cute!
mesaana October 20th, 2005, 08:02 PM Thanks Lucky!
I've just spoken with the lady who is fostering him, she's a really wonderful person, very caring. We had a good conversation about little Doonesbury :)
There is only one thing about him that might make him a better match for someone else: she believes he might have separation anxiety and would do better with someone who is at home more than I am. We will both sleep on it and have agreed to speak again on the week-end.
No matter what happens, this little guy is very very lucky to have come across her and she deserves high praise!

Lucky Rescue October 20th, 2005, 08:31 PM oh, I didn't know about the sep. anxiety.
Here's an "after" pic of the little guy!
Prin October 20th, 2005, 10:46 PM Mesaana, you don't have any other animals? Maybe with animals, he'd have less separation anxiety. I don't know, I've had second hand doggies all my life and separation anxiety was never a barrier for us... There are ways of getting through it.
Lucky Rescue October 21st, 2005, 09:50 AM Mesaana, you don't have any other animals?
Don't mean to butt in here, but Mesaana has Romeo, the gorgeous Abyssinian she got through us. :D
catsnatcher-CDN October 23rd, 2005, 08:18 PM any updates on Doonesbury?
Lucky Rescue October 23rd, 2005, 09:28 PM We're getting inquiries on him, but nothing solid yet!
mesaana October 23rd, 2005, 10:36 PM Just as a little follow-up... I've decided not to pursue adopting Doonesbury. He's adorable and I'm sure he'll find a great family soon.
Prin: As LR stated, I have Romeo, my very busy, dog-like Abby.
As for the separation anxiety, I know what you mean. I also have had rescued dogs, including one extremely anxious lab who managed to rip her nails off her paws and bleed all over my walls and doors the one time she was left alone in a room right after I adopted her! Poor Honey, she was such a nervous wreck! But soooo smart! Anyways, we worked through it, figured out how to handle it and it got much much better. However, back then I had a house and a boyfriend and we were both working shifts so it was easier and she had less time to spend alone. Now, I live alone with Romeo. If this little guy was at risk of being euthanized, I would definitely adopt him. But he's extremely well taken care of now and I'm sure with Lucky's help he'll find a home that will meet his present needs better than I can. He's already been through so much!
Also, since I have a business trip coming up, I think I'll wait until after I get back to adopt a dog. I'm not worried, all my pets have always chosen me...

BoxerRescueMTL October 23rd, 2005, 11:00 PM Good luck Doonesbury!
Good luck finding the right pooch for you Lyne :)

destine21 October 25th, 2005, 10:00 PM Hey there,I just looked at the picture for like 2 seconds and decided that I want to adopt him.I'm home most of the time and even when I am at work,my husband and my daughter are home.Whoever has the information, please email it to me so I can see about adopting this little cutie. ;)
Lucky Rescue October 25th, 2005, 10:37 PM After sifting through more emails than we've gotten for any animal before, it seems Doonesbury has found his new home!:)

catsnatcher-CDN November 18th, 2005, 08:13 AM Has Doonesbury just been listed for adoption on Animatch??
What happened?
chico2 November 18th, 2005, 08:31 AM Oh no,I hope not:sad:
Lucky Rescue November 18th, 2005, 10:48 AM Yep, that's him alright. I have no idea, since we didn't do the adoption on him.
Maybe they just haven't updated their site.
Rottielover November 18th, 2005, 10:53 AM he was added either yesterday, or today. So who ever adopted him, must have returned him for some reason . Poor guy, he has endured so much
Lucky Rescue November 18th, 2005, 11:24 AM Poor baby! This is the second return now!!:(
Rottielover November 18th, 2005, 11:29 AM He has gone through so much. I really hope he finds his forever home soon, before too much emotional damage is done. So not fair
Prin November 19th, 2005, 10:58 PM Well, he's gone now... So I guess they just didn't update.:fingerscr
catsnatcher-CDN November 19th, 2005, 11:45 PM Prin,
Do you think he's been adopted?
Prin November 20th, 2005, 03:07 AM I hope so, but I don't know...
animatch November 21st, 2005, 08:03 AM Yes he is with us now.....he has already been to two homes since the person rescued him. We have had him sterillized & we are now doing some sociallizing & training with him. His looks are cute, but do not tell all........not housbroken, dominant, a chewer, and no manners. Thank God he is great with other animals, & crate trained...........he needs experienced people, that will do obedience, no young children. We need a serious home for this pooch to make him grow into the great dog he can be, he is now on the right track.
catsnatcher-CDN November 21st, 2005, 08:26 AM I hope he finds a home where some of his bad traits can be forgiven.
Lucky Rescue November 21st, 2005, 09:53 AM I"m glad Animatch is doing the screening!:) This poor dog never had a chance or any training at his original home. I know there is someone out there who doesn't expect a dog to be perfect from Day 1!
BMDLuver November 21st, 2005, 10:22 AM I"m glad Animatch is doing the screening!:) This poor dog never had a chance or any training at his original home. I know there is someone out there who doesn't expect a dog to be perfect from Day 1!
The right person is out there for Doonesbury, it just might take time. It took 5months for Delila and Daphne so as they say "Good things come to those who wait!"
Prin November 21st, 2005, 11:06 AM I'm also glad it's Animatch who's doing the screening. This guy will find his foever home. Looks aren't everything but they let you get away with a lot of stuff...
meb999 November 21st, 2005, 05:48 PM I got my fingers and toes crossed for this handsome fella! Buster has his paws crossed too...:fingerscr :fingerscr :fingerscr
I hope he gets the best home EVER, with somneone who understands that good doggy manners don't just happen, they need to be taught.....
Beautygirl January 23rd, 2006, 02:24 PM OMG! He definitely is a cutie. I hope he finds a home soon.
