This is Dakota, and she was dumped. She's now in boarding, and desperately needs a home. She is a very sweet girl and that is all I know.

For more information please call Jane at (514) 630-1993

What a sweet face, she looks utterly bewildered. Wudjah I sure hope your contact will consider her (maybe he wants a cute lil' pup). What's wrong with her poor nose?

I've emailed her and am keeping my fingers crossed. This is her post ...

I'm still looking for a black or dark, c0cker spaniel dog. Willing to drive some distance for the right animal. Loving home provided. Large fenced in yard.

It says she's in London though...maybe part of the transport could be arranged as that would definetely be a long drive!

I'm sure something could be arranged with the transport.

As for her nose, well she looks thin and neglected. I'm sure some TLC would perk her up, poor little thing.

Ya she needs some TLC for sure!!

Ahh what I could do for that nose :D

When I was growing up, a neighbour had a cocker named Kelly Jo. All the kids loved that dog - he looked like this little fellow, only KJ was not so sad looking! I hope that person takes him!

Cockers aren't my breed of choice even though I have one.

That cutie is beyond adorable though, and that face is so expressive.

So adorable..

I met Dakota at the vet's office on Friday. She's beautiful, her photo does not do her justice. Her foster mentioned that someone in Ontario was interested in her. :fingerscr

I wonder if it's the person I told about her?? I gave her all the information and told her to come here and look at the picture but then I've never heard back!!

She is sweet I think she looks part american and part english. If you are having any problems placing her you may want to contact the ecs rescue. They have been known to take american and english cockers. They are very nice there.
http://www.ecsca.org/index.html she is based in the states but it is a nationwide website, and they are very selective as to what homes they go to. Filling in the application for the rescue was actually more involved then filling in one for a breeder.

When i was growing up I had a black american cocker named Flopsie sadly no one liked her but me, she was a bit neurotic my guess now is she was from a bad breeder. I was the only one that could get near her. There are good cocker spaniels out there though I do know this and I have met them as well.
Good luck to Dakota she will find a home.

Foster? You mean Diane? Last I heard, this dog was in a boarding kennel.

The lady I met has a rescue called Teja(sp?). She's just inside Ontario I believe. She indicated she was fostering this little lady. Perhaps I misunderstood?

If it doesn't work out with the women that is interested in her. I would really suggest the ecs rescue. See my above post. Honestly I think they can help. Good luck!! Sorry to repost this but just trying to be helpful.

Just reading this now. I also met her with BMDLuver when we at the vets with the little black American cocker I just took in. Also, under the impression she was being fostered and possible home in Ontario. I will always take Cocker Spaniels into Foxy's, I have 2 of my own, so please let me know when you come across any. I even foster them myself. Any one have anymore updates on her?

These are my two cockers. Miss Maddie (3 years) and Sir Charles (8 years) both rescues and the joys of my life. I think I have to post them seperately so here is Miss Maddie

Here is Sir Charles,
As you can see my choice of white slipcovers was probably not the best choice with 4 dogs and 3 cats, lol.

Dakota is now in a foster with Foxy's. Thanks to Jane and Diane for everything they done for him. Yes, she is a he it turns out, lol.
He is living with another cocker spaniel, Camille, who was adopted from Foxy's. Her new mom is now fostering, they look so cute together, a blonde and a black cocker, they follow each other around and give each other kisses. Am going to check into his hips and see what needs to be done, if surgery is required or not. But he is safe and being loved to pieces.

Happy to hear that Dakota is settled for now. Hope that Miska is adopted soon as well. My husband had a black cocker growing up that greatly resembled these dogs. He keeps asking me if they have found homes. Certainly he is under no illusion re the termperament of Cockers, just we have no illusions re the termperaments of Dachshunds and Eskimos. A Cocker and an Eskimo would not be my first choice as housemates - and the current trend of breeding Cock-A-Mos is a frightening thought. Should we get a second dog don't know what breed it would be - but most likely a senior female - my vet is hoping I will take a Greyhound. But, Eskies like to give hugs and with those sharp nails and the Greyhound's thin skin a bit of a worry. Also could not pick up a Greyhound and run when necessary. Really hope Dakota doesn't need hip surgery and that Miska's eye problem is not too serious.

Mishka has cataracts, probably looking quite a bit of $'s to do the surgery as it is specialised, that's why I offered to take Dakota so Jane only has to worry about one of them. Dakota has a super temperament, so does Camille and I have another 4 year old for adoption, black American Cocker I took from the pound, he was going to be euthanized, so no way I was leaving him. He has a wonderful temperament too. Big couch potatoe. He was bit shell-shocked from the pound for a few days, but now has come into his own and foster mom said he has turned out to be a super little dog.

Sorry that Miska has cataracts - my husband's family dog did as well. Not smart to let a black dog out at night, off leash and alone - and with cataracts. He was getting on in years, but I expect you can imagine what happened to him. I worry about PRA with my Eskimo - no sign of it as yet but he is only 16 months - today actually. And hip dysplasia - too much experience with Dachshund disc disease so am trying to be optimistic but am worried based on my past experience. My husband's dog had a great temperament - with me!

It is with great sadness and many tears that I let you know that Dakota passed over the Rainbow Bridge on Thursday, August 11, 2005 at approximately 7pm.

His heart began giving out, apparently the natural pacemaker we all have was not functioning and his heart could not sustain him even standing up any longer, which explains why he was always sliding down.

His mental torment was much great than any physical condition he had, either from being used for research or breeding we are not sure which but definitely one or the other. His mom, Kelly who started out fostering him but couldnt bear to part with him, gave him all the love and pampering any dog could ever want in his brief time with her. He knew what it meant to have someone care for you.

He is now at peace from whatever tormented him so and no-one can ever hurt him again.

A memorium will be place permenantly on the Foxy website for him www.foxyscaninecompanions.ca

"Goodnight my little Angel, sleep tight. Although your hearbeat is still, it quietly beats on in all of us who knew you, who cared for you, and in all of those involved in rescue, you are why we continue on especially on those days when we wonder why we are doing this, we will think of you and know why we must go on."
