Toonces July 15th, 2005, 09:14 AM My vet called me the other day looking for help when some people (if you can call them that) brought their 8 yr old dog that they have had since she was a pup to be pts. they said she has seperation problems and when they took her camping she was out of control and would not listen to them. Now I am no expert but I thought seperation anxiety happened when the owners were not around.
Anyway they took her to a vet near where they were camping up north to have her pts and he refused so they went to my vet and they refused also, they said she is a very sweet girl she has been there since tuesday and when left alone at night in a run with a blankie she is fine, she chews nothing and is very gentle and good on lead, I will know more about her when I go in tomorrow with my 2 girls for their checkup so if anyone is interested in an older girl that needs a home for her golden yrs please let me know.
Toonces July 15th, 2005, 09:16 AM one more pic
Luba July 15th, 2005, 09:18 AM Ohhh jeepers I hate people!!!
This poor baby, poor little angel. They just wanted to go about their summer and not feel tied down to the dog thats all it is.
:grouphug: Toonces what's her name did they atleast tell the vet her name? She must be awfully upset not knowing what happened to her.
Ask if she's okay around other dogs, that may give us a huge break in getting her out of there...I will DEFINITEY ask around!
You poor poor baby, they didn't deserve you anyway....
badger July 15th, 2005, 09:20 AM And hurrah for those two vets who, unlike the owners, have A CONSCIENCE.
Luba July 15th, 2005, 09:21 AM GREAT point badger
THANK YOU to the vets!!! THANK YOU for not doing that to her!!!
Lucky Rescue July 15th, 2005, 09:57 AM How despicable. Agree with Luba - probably dumped cause they didnt' want to bother with her.
How do these people sleep at night???
Toonces July 15th, 2005, 01:28 PM I just don't understand people and those kind of people I don't want to understand.
Her name is Dutchess and she is 8 yrs old, spayed and utd on her shots, I will try her with my 2 tomorrow and get some more pics of her, they said she is in good health no problems that they know of, sounds like they just didn't want her anymore. My vet has know her because she was a client of theirs and they made the owners sign a form that they (The Vet) now own the dog and will try to place her themselves or get her into rescue, the vet didn't want to take her to Quinte Humane because they have had a huge influx of dogs and are out of room.
I will post more info as soon as I know anything.
Luba July 15th, 2005, 01:32 PM Thank you Toonces!!
I'll be looking forward to reading any update on Dutchess... :queen: she deserves to be treated like a queen!!
:sorry: Dutchess that your family is  but lots of us out here really really :grouphug: you!!
Can't wait to hear how she is tomorow!!
lezzpezz July 15th, 2005, 01:35 PM My vet called me the other day looking for help when some people (if you can call them that) brought their 8 yr old dog that they have had since she was a pup to be pts. they said she has seperation problems and when they took her camping she was out of control and would not listen to them. My hat  is truly off to both of those vets who made a conscious firm decision NOT to just up and euthanize this lovely animal! BRAVO!! I hope there are many more vets out there that follow these ethics. I hope Duchess :queen: finds a place to spend the rest of her days contented and loved...she doserves no less. And, seeing that my hat  is now off  , I am equally impressed by your efforts to rehome this dog. YOU must surely sleep well at night, knowing how much you care for the ones who can't speak up! :thumbs up
Toonces July 15th, 2005, 01:42 PM Thankyou Lezzerpezzer,
There are many people trying to help this girl out, my vet has called anyone they know involved in rescue in any way or anyone who loves dogs so with all these people pulling for her she may have a chance of finding a good home where she never has to worry about being abandon again.
chico2 July 15th, 2005, 04:03 PM Toonces, looking at my cats, whom I love..I will for the life of me never understand people who for whatever reason decide to give a healthy animal a death-sentence,I am just hoping one day they will get their due.
Dutchess deserves so much better and I am certain with you and and your obviously very caring vet on her side, she'll find someone to love her until the end of her days! Way to go Toonces :grouphug:
Toonces July 15th, 2005, 04:09 PM I was just talking to the gal that works the desk at the vets office and she said Dutchess is doing just fine, she is a very happy girl, full of life and love and I am so excited about meeting her tomorrow I will be sure to take lots of pics and spend some good quailty time with her, I know it's hard for them because they are so busy caring for other pets but they are trying and thats the best any of us can do when uncaring people do things like this.
SnowDancer July 15th, 2005, 05:43 PM My vet of 25 years shows the same generosity of spirit as these 2 wonderful vets in Belleville. Many of the dogs and cats she re-homes remain patients and if there is any problem, they must be returned to her. Most of my pets came to me through her. I spent a few summers in Belleville in the mid 1960s - very nice town and nice people - really hope that someone will take this poor pup in.
Toonces July 16th, 2005, 01:08 PM Well I went to see Dutches this morning and let me tell you she is one sad girl  . She cowered in her run and didn't want to come to us untill the vet came in, he is the one who has been feeding her and walking her and he lives next to the clinic so she sees him the most.
She shook for quite a few minutes and her tail was between her legs but after about 15 min I did manage to get a very gentle kiss from her, her pics are deceiving she actually looks alot older in person and is a wee bit of a thing I would guess maybe 40 lbs, they said she has been very good while there but she can escape her run so they have it tied and locked so she can't get out. There was a girl beside her who was in for a spay and she was making quite the racket and it didn't seem to phase her.
I didn't introduce her to my girls because she was so timid, I just didn't have the heart incase she got scared, (my 2 can be quite bouncy) but I did get to see her happy side, she was quite content to just sit by me and enjoy lots of pets and sweet talk. I would imagine it will take her time to warm up to people but once she does she will be yours! It was quite obvious how she felt about the vet because her tail would wag like mad when she saw him coming.
If anyone is interested please send my a PM
Luba July 16th, 2005, 01:44 PM I will never get used to it...the eyes well with tears every time...every single time!
Good call with the introduction, I wouldn't have had the heart to do it either.
What a poor poor sweet girl. She must love the vet, she knows he saved her life and has been giving her love since.
Oh Toonces thats so heartbreaking.....sniffers goin on here like crazy.
Just 40lbs she's so small. Sadie is almost 60 lbs.
Poor little darlin, she's gonna need a lot of love !
Toonces July 16th, 2005, 05:25 PM Even tho Dutchess is not in a home I think she is in the best place she can be for now, better at the vets than is a noisy shelter, she is a girl of small frame not skinny at all just tiny and is in good health but her nails sure need a good trimming.
I will keep you posted on any updates I get about her.
Luba July 16th, 2005, 09:02 PM You know I think this thread should be moved to the adoption section it will get more exposure :D what do you think?
Change the title as well to beautiful dutchess (city) for adoption! ??
Whacha think whatcha thing? :D
