Pet Tip
You JUST got a new dog – Don’t freak out – Pet tip 255
Today’s domestic dog is still closely related to the wolf. Like all wolves living in a pack, dogs must be part of a stable family and feel safe. Most domestic behavioral problems occur when the dog is confused about how to act/behave in different situations such as your home or out on a walk.
It is recommended that you keep Fido confined no matter his age for at least the first month in your home. This will allow him to settle in more comfortably and adapt to your lifestyle. At the same time, confinement will reduce such misbehaviors as chewing and separation anxiety.
Here are a few general rules to help you to prevent misbehaviors when you bring Fido home:

Dear Blade,
I hope that you are safe and have found Neno & Pata, Grandpa & Grandma Dunn, Aunt Greta, and many other beloved family, friends, and pets in Heaven. I bet it is beautiful there and you are running free, just like you did on Earth-which brings me to this point-I’m sorry I failed you by letting you run free, never being kept within boundaries to keep you safe. You were always so smart and always came home except for that one night I was sure you had froze to death and found you snuggled up with a German Shepherd down the road. Boy, you got your little butt spanked for scaring me to death that time! I should have known that we were just tempting fate each time you’d go out the door without a leash, chain, or someone watching you but like I said, you always came home and often times just did your business and came right back inside. There’s not one door at our house that doesn’t have your paw scratch on it--that is how you knocked to let us know you were waiting to get in. I miss hearing that knock already. I miss hearing you bark every time someone stepped foot on the premises, you got scolded for doing it because it was so annoying…but I’d give anything to hear that precious bark just one more time. Funny how one misses the things that they are sure they can live without.
I’d like to use this letter to also thank Jared Craver for letting us know that you had met with a tragic end and for offering to take me to get you. Daddy was already on his way to get you because I couldn’t do it--I thank and love him for doing that although I know it hurt him to see you like that. To the person who hit you, I wish them no ill will, I just wish they could have taken the time to have tried to find out who you belonged to or had the decency to move you to the side of the road…you deserved that courtesy. But as my grandmother always said, no wrong deed goes unpunished…and as I write this I know that one of the worst punishments in life is guilt. Please forgive me Blade and tell God to give me peace to forgive myself, I am SO SORRY! We all love you, miss you, and will never forget you. People may read this and think it silly or strange to write a letter to some dog but hopefully they can understand that to us, you weren’t just some dog, you were OUR dog.
I love you kid…you’re such a good boy..run free and try not to scratch up the Pearly Gates!
Love,
Mommy
