Most dog owners are aware that dog noses are extremely sensitive. This is due to the quantity of olfactory or ‘smell’ receptors in a dog’s nose. Whereas humans have around five million olfactory receptors, dogs have two hundred and twenty million. This makes their noses exponentially more sensitive than a human’s. Most times a dog’s sensitive nose works to our benefit. All kinds of dogs are used as service dogs to help humans find missing people, sniff out explosives, drugs etc. They can smell people coming from quite a distance and alert us to their presence. There are some embarrassing occasions however, when a dog’s nose is just too sensitive from our human perspective. Most notably this occurs when dogs try to sniff humans in their private areas.
This behaviour is a common one in dogs and equally common is the fact that it upsets most dog owners. The reason some dogs sniff at a human’s private parts is the same reason they sniff the private parts of other dogs. We know that when they smell other dogs in this way they can tell the sex, rank (is the dog more dominant or submissive) age and other information about the dog.

We named Isabella after and old english ford my husband had in Germany. She was 5 months old when we got her. Isabella has brought alot of smiles to alot of people who meet her. At first she was all legs, it took a long time to grow into them. Sometimes I believe she has more toys then my children. Loves tennis balls. We live in the woods where there are ginny birds that she will chase not to hurt them but to watch them fly. As she gets older she will let friends into the house but doesn't want them to leave. One year after we got her we bought a Bull Mastiff from Florida. His name is Cherokee, and boy what a love. His weight is 115 and is a leaner. He loves everyone . Together they had a litter of 12 puppies inwhich we lost 3 black males. The 9 that lived I believe if we had the land we would have kept them all. Our male puppie named Kong is know 1 year old and weighs 125. He has had hip, knee and shoulder surgery which all was successful he plays outside like nothing is wrong with him. Our female puppie named Chicken Soup is also 1 year old and weighs 107 her name came from being scared of everything. Both our puppies are fixed as well as Isabella. We had to buy a king size bed for our king size family. Our females both sleep with us. They are all spoiled. and we wouldn't have it any other way. Here is mom and daughter
