Dogs Cats and Anesthesia – Pet tip 239

Most cats and dogs undergo some type of surgery that requires anesthesia during their lifetimes even if it is only the surgery done for spaying and neutering. Other common procedures that require anesthesia include dental cleaning or dental surgery as well as repairing broken bones. Whenever surgery is done on a pet the topic of anesthesia arises. For the purposes of this article we will be talking about general anesthesia where pets are completely unconscious. We’ve all heard about the potential risks and possible complications regarding anesthesia in our own lives, and so it makes good sense to wonder about anesthetic complications when it comes to our pets as well.

Luckily, veterinary medicine has made huge strides in reducing anesthetic complications. So long as the pet is properly monitored during the actual surgery and the pet has been carefully prescreened for possible problems, anesthesia on pets is quite safe and problems are few.

way back in the early summer, my friend Dee-Jay had a litter of kittens for free, they were either to go to a family or to the pound (which i found out very recently) so we decided to take one, the runt,i named her Boo. well about 2 months ago Boo seemed very lazy and slept alot, while we didnt think much of it. one night about 3 weeks ago, boo was really bad, she wasnt able to walk, and refused to eat, and formed white gums, we knew it wasnt long before she passed but still hoped she made it til payday for us to take her to the vet, considering we had no money at the time. the next day she started meowing and throughtout her life she was never known to meow, she was rather a quiet cat, so that was a big sign for me that somethign wasnt right. so i stayed home from school that day to stay with boo. she was even more weak now. as i layed with her she kept trying to move around, she would try to get up and she would try to walk away but she was way to weak and fell i read that when cats are about to pass they look for a place to go. so i figure thats what she was trying to do. she started struggling and crying in such an agonizing scream. she finally got up all her strength and made it a foot or two from where she was, and fell, she stayed put so i lied down beside her, and then she stoped crying and just layed there for about 10 mins then quietly passed on. around 10:45am. she died of luekemia.
