Kittens and Birth Infections – Pet tip 241

When kittens are born they are extra small and fragile. This increases their potential of becoming ill or getting an infection. Infections in newborn kittens are quite serious as their bodies are small and they have not built up adequate immunity against many diseases or potential infections that may harm them. This article will focus on three infections that can affect newborn kittens; umbilical infections, toxic milk syndrome and septicemia.

When a female cat (aka a queen) gives birth, she will bite open the amniotic sac that surrounds the kitten. She will then chew through the umbilical cord of the kitten. Normally there are no problems.

I am Bubba and my mommy tells everyone I'm the sweetest kitty on the planet.    I'm a big kitty, full of love.  I love to meet people and everyone is my friend.   Everyone seems to fall in love with me after they meet me.
I love to snuggle and huggle and get scratchies.   I love to sit outside and nap when there's a cool breeze.   Mostly I want to be in the company of people.   I love to curl up with my mommy and nestle her to sleep. Dinner time is my favorite time of the day eventhough this awful Diabetes has made my new food kinda yucky tasting.
Things have been kinda spooky the last few weeks but I'm putting on a brave face for mommy.   I've spend lots of time in a strange place where doctors poke me and keep me away from my mommy.    Now I get shots twice a day which I do not like.   I don't want to see my mommy cry anymore so I sit still for them best I can.
I have a mean sister, a small skinny Calico named LoQuita.    She slaps me around sometimes but we get along just fine.   I could knock her 'cross the room if I ever wanted to!
