Kitten Development Stages – Pet Tip 249
When we bring a kitten home for the first time to adopt it as a pet, it should be between nine and twelve weeks old. This is so the kitten has a chance to spend time with its mother and so that the kitten becomes socialized with its littermates and learns proper kitten behaviour. But what happens before the kitten comes home? This article will outline some of the important milestones in kittenhood in an effort to familiarize you with some of the stages of kitten development.
Kittens are born blind and deaf and they remain that way for around the first fourteen days of their lives. They use their sense of smell to find their way toward their mothers for nourishment and heat. They really need to stay close to their mothers for these first few weeks as they are unable to regulate their own body temperature. The umbilical cord typically falls off after the first few days of life.

I'm a laid back kitty who likes to lay around and look pretty. I like to watch my friend Rosey while she runs around like crazy and crashes into stuff. I just roll my eyes at her, then lay down for another nap! It took a while for her to grow on me, but I like her pretty well now. I eat a lot and Mom worries that I might get too fat. But I have lots of energy when I want to and I can run around really fast! This comes in handy when I need to get away from Rosey or when I want to avoid going to the vet. I love to woo people with my cute stretching flip motion. It looks like I'm grabbing out to you, but really, I'm trying to see how much longer I can make my body. Mommy loves me because I don't give her much trouble at all. I don't snuggle too much, but I love having my face rubbed, playing with my cool feather toy, and running after that silly laser! Mom always says that when I look up at her with my big, round eyes, her heart melts. Moms are always so sappy!
