Thumbs down First Shih-Tzu haircut please help!!!

Hi, i have a 6 month old Shih-Tzu, yesterday he had his first hair cut, i asked for him to be kept fluffy but the groomer said she only had 2 guards for the clippers. He was cut and i really dont like how short it is, does every groomer only have 2 guards for clippers? As i would really like him to be kept fluffy next time, thanks

First Shih-Tzu

I would find another groomer, a professional with all the necessary equipment.

Sorry your first grooming experience wasn't what you hoped for..... it takes some time to find a good groomer, if you have friends who use a groomer, talk to them and find out if the groomer does what they want. I know it doesn't help much but......the fur will grow back.

Shop around before your pup needs another trim, take a picture of the cut you want if possible.

Good luck and don't forget to post some pictures!!!

This is Archie before his cut, as you can see hes just a little ball of fluff! So you can imagine how shocked i was when i picked him up and he had no fluff except his ears and tail, the groomer said on the longest guard there would be at least an inch of fur, there is half an inch if that. I am so upset with it, he doesnt look like the same dog. I will post pictures of him later when i get home from work with his cut.

Hobo always looks like a totally different dog too.

He is not fussy about being groomed so we trim him short so he does not have to go too often. It grows back like weeds so don't worry too much about it.

Hobo is part shih-tzu too. Shop around/ask people for references to find a groomer Archie likes that does a job that you like.

Archie, btw, is as cute as can be

awe

that's too bad that you got such a dissapointment! an inch long is very short. I keep mine pretty long. Fine a groomer that will scissor your dog. Will end up looking much better, it is too easy for them to just take clippers and zoom all over your dog! Look around and find some one that will listen to you and do what you like, good luck! here is a picture of mine, I like to keep him pretty long but have gone shorter, right now he has a neat cut with puffs on his legs and his head is a "pom Pom" cut. Don't have a recent picture of that though..

yea me and my friend (Baileys mummy) were thinking about buying a pair of clippers between us, with 4 clipper guards though. We decided against it because they play up sooo much for us, even when we just try and cut around their eyes. LOL

That's about the same as we do for our shih tzu's,but that is at request from us.i would find another groomer with the proper grooming tools for what you want and are going to do as you request.he does look real cute with his new hair cut.

Sheba and Mo look different too.Sheba has been getting shaved for almost 10 years now.she gets really hot when her fur gets long.

groomers often say also that they leave the ears long on girls and short on boys... mmmh I'd have a fit if they CUT his ears! your puppy is cute though, mine has lhasa in him so he doesn't have that cute head so has a bit of a snout so I don't like the pom pom head on him, but looks good on most dogs, Gucci's bro lives real close to me, and last summer they SHAVED the ears... no hari on them, looked a little weird! your archie is so big now! they grow quick don't they? I still think they are the CUTEST puppies

yea... i said to them when they cut him, i wanted him longish, but dont touch his ears or his tail.... If they had, then there would have been trouble! lol. Well... England doesnt really get hot haha, but the house does when my mum has the heating on all day, he did used to get hot, he prefered sleeping on the wooden floor in my bedroom than on his bed. But now he seems to be a little cold lol i want a happy medium, fluffy.. but not TOO fluffy

I personally think he looks adorable.
I do my own grooming so i can do my own vision. Mabee you can pick up some dvd's & try it yourself it's not that hard.

One thing about a bad hair cut is that it alwasy grows back, but you pet groomer should listen to your instructions. Based on your experience I would definately investigate and find another groomer. Many years ago we had a Poodle, my biggest fear when I had him groomed the fist time was that he would end up like a little Feminine looking. I clearly instructed the groomer not to get carried away. Sure enough when I went to pick up Licorice he arrived with all these little tuffs and bows. I was furious! Never returned to that groomer! I learnt fast that, I was the costumer, I was paying and I was going to get what I wanted; not someone elses version of what my puppy should look like.
