I have already been in contact and will be taking around 10 ratties on Monday to foster after they decide what will be staying at the shelter (they are sending to other rescue agencies).
I compliment them on their efforts in saving these little guys!

I tried to foster a dog once with a private rescue and it did not work out so I figure I might as well help in a area I am familar. I am excited to meet my new temporary roomies! haha

Every commitment helps regardless of the species. You are so very kind to do this!

Sometimes rodents get "forgotten" with all the focus on cats and dogs. Lets spread the word.
My story:
A few years back the SPCA Mtl was overwhelmed when a "breeder" of chinchillas showed up the week of Christmas and dumped off 12 of them. The SPCA actually delivered all 12 of them to me... They were jammed into guinea pig cages, males and females all mixed up. .....I split the sexes, but a few months later guess who had baby chillas....
Good Luck to the ratties.

I remember talking to people from Adopt a Rat, Canada! - Small Victories Rodent Rescue a while back, maybe they have some fosters or adopters waiting? I'd take in some rats and hedgies if they could get to BC (sadly, rats are a no go across Alberta :sad.

I requested for any pregnant or nursing females to foster as they are difficult to deal with in shelters especially since they get very defensive of their babies, but I was told there was none, so "fingers crossed" the hoarder kept them separate because they can get pregnant at 4-8 weeks old.
I adopted a female once that turned out pregnant but had no contact with other rats except her babies which she was separated from at 4 weeks so....

I beleive the rodent rescue is closed now, there was one in Montreal but the woman running that has left the country now to the best of my knowledge.
