I would be worried as well that he may have an allergic reaction. Please contact your vet right away and ask for advice.
Good luck and keep us posted. |

Hi, wb1. Dogs can and sometimes do react to poison ivy. Our vets see it most often in areas of the body with little hair--the lips, around the mouth, sometimes around the eyes. So yes, his skin could react to it.
If the oil is ingested, it can cause sudden nausea and vomiting. If you see any signs of itches, rash, or vomiting, contact your vet immediately. If your dog is very sensitive to the oil of the plant, the allergic reaction could progress to anaphylaxis, which can be life-threatening. If you call your vet, they may be able to tell you more details about what to watch for and what, if anything, to do before you bring him in if he reacts. I'm thinking that Benadryl might help if you have it, just so you can get him to the vet safely, but the vet will have to recommend a dosage for you and will have advice as to whether that will work or not. With any luck, your dog won't react at all Please let us know how it turns out!
