Lupi Dog harness

What are your thoughts on the Lupi dog harness?
I am considering getting one on Friday to replace the puppy step-in I have. It is getting too small for Ebony.
She pulls all the time, so I am hoping this is my answer to teaching her to heel and walk like a lady

I really don't see how that will stop the pulling. With my own dog, a harness that went around his chest/shoulders still enabled him to pull. Sure, a harness kept him from choking, which was great, but the pulling never really stopped until I used a head harness. Then, it was instant. He can't pull me with just his head.

The only harness that minimized pulling (for me & my dog) was the easy walk harness, but only because of the way it's fitted... it's like wearing a t-shirt that's too small for you - you can't lift your arms all the way up. this harness had the same principle, it was very tight across the shoulder area, so the dog couldn't take big steps, so he couldn't really gain any ground on you.

I'd also worry about the cord too, it doesn't seem like it would be too comfortable for the dog, especially for long walks.

I have found the Canine Safety Harness works best for my puller Eskimo. It is not a step in - washes easily - and he can't get out of it. Canadian product - www.caninefriendly.com - made by Canine Equipment. I buy mine from my dog's groomer but a few stores in Toronto carry the line. Size small fits dogs 15 - 25 lbs. Although we started age 2 specific issues training and now he has a choke chain, heaven help us.

Prin is right. The Newtrix harness is GREAT.

We sold it on our site for a while, but stopped only because shipping it wasn't that easy. But it's a great product.

I'll third that. it is amazing how it stops the pulling . absolutely incredible and thanks Prin for suggesting it in another thread, because otherwise i probably wouldn't have spent the 45$ on it, but now I think it is the best piece of equipment for dogs that I own.

The easy walk harness shouldn't be so tight it is restricting the dog's movement - if it does, you have it fitted wrong.

When the dog pulls, the harness is meant to turn him/her towards the owner, and stop the forward movement- same principle as the gentle leader and halti, but instead of turning just the head/neck, the entire body is curved in. What I like about it is, unlike many of the head halters, most dogs accept the harnesses without any stress or fuss. Some dogs never accept the head halters, and the harness makes a good alternative. I walk dogs for a living, and I tell you, my job would be a hundred times more difficult without the harness on my chronic pulling client. I can walk a lively 120 lb bernese year old puppy with absolutely no stress or strain on my shoulders at all.

I have used the lupi on a huge Bloodhound rescue I had. He broke 2 leather leads. I bought the lupi thinking this thing will never hold him back it will surely break. Did not break and within minutes of putting it on him he was like a dog who had been trained to walk on a lead. I was amazed. I think it is far better than those ones that go around the dogs muzzle. I have not tried the other one that was mentioned but I can vouch for this one.

I tried the lupi harness for my last huskies and we didn't like it.

i thought the newtrix might be my answer as well.
although it is different than the halti or gentle leader it still can strain a dogs neck. the disclaimer inside that advises not to use if dog has existing cervical problems is enough for me to reject it.
as a sidenote, one afternoon, i took my pully boy on a nice long walk. an hour or so later, we went to the vet for routine stuff. she examined him and said a couple of his neck vertebrae seemed 'out' which she had not found before. i had used his halti and had not done so for ages........
i'm trying the chest harness by gentle leader, it's just difficult to fit them right.

I bought a Sporn Training Halter to use on Laci. The trainer we had suggested a Gentle Leader which we used until Laci was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus. We now understood her behavior while using it (she walked funny due to it pressing against her spine) Can someone tell me if the Newtrix harness will not press the same as the Gentle Leader?

They are shipped from Montreal but unfortunately we can't lower the 45. (which includes the shipping and handling anywhere to the U.S. or Canada) due the arrangement we made when we started carrying the product.

ok, I got the Lupi, and it works! Ebony walks nicely next to me and doesn't pull anymore. It is so much better than the step-in which must have been bothering her.
She is a strong dog, and now walking is a pleasure without her tugging my arm muscles constantly. She seems to undersatnd better where I want her to go. If she pulls, the cord tightens around her chest, not her neck, and when she stops, the cord loosens immediatley. Good doggy

I just had to comment, that I just bought it today for my Pup. At 62 lbs, when he pulls you certainly feel it. However, I tried it out anyways, and to my amazement, it was like a new dog almost. As soon as he started to pull, he would stop himself and ease up. I guess in some way, it must be uncomfortable somewhat for him when he pulls hard, so he self-corrects himself so as not to make it pull. Worked like a charm

I've used the Lupi for a while. It seems too simple to work, but it does! We lost the first one and I tried everything on the market until I got a replacement. He walks calmly, happily, and without damaging either of us.
It may not work for every dog, but it works for us.

I bought one for Kai - he was a husky and it didnt work. If anything it made it easier for him to pull. I was very disappointed as it costs quite a bit. It also dug into him around his leg area. Its interesting that the previous person had great success with it. Just shows that you have to spend the money and see if it works for you.
Our trainer helped me with the pulling, - taking treats and every time he pulled i stopped and stood still for a minute. If you have an hour to walk around the block every day - thats how long it takes - it eventually works. You still had to keep reminding him though. The closer to the sea we got - he just couldnt control himself!!!

Sorry to necro this thread. But it's to revoke the earlier endorsement I gave of this product.
Now that my Zeus is getting bigger and heavier, I found that this harness was doing nothing to stop him from pulling, and indeed was irritating the area under his forelegs.
I now have a much more sensible training collar and a training leash which I am finding is much, much easier (once he got used to it)

i hated the lupi for my dog. it doesnt chafe the armpits because it doesnt tighten like it says it does. i tried the halty/newtrix and my dog would hardly walk with it on his face and any grass we came across he would scrub his face in to get it off, and ended up cutting his nose trying to remove it with his paws. My dogs only 35lbs but pulls like like a pitbull. I found the miracle harness about 6 months ago and its awesome, he did get a bit of armpit chaffing the first day but the second day until now he walks like a dream. it was a bit more expensive ($30) but its amazing. I cant remember exactly what its called but i know they sell them at all Tisol locations and Sophies on commercial drive.

We used the Lupi on Luke and it helped. But it also seem to pull his skin. It looked like his underarms had been waxed and small little bumps from the cord.

We prefer the Sensation Harness or the Easy Walk Harness much more

For those of you who can't get it to work or who say it bothers the dog must have it on wrong... or the wrong size Lupi. The simple figure 8 design slips easily on the dog and just hangs there loose until the dog pulls. Then it tightens up and by the dog's own force causes and upward lifting of the shoulders and stops forward momentum. I use it on my Aussie and it works great and she was a constant puller on a regular lead.
Again.. when she is walking without pulling, the Lupi hangs loose.. I don't see how it could possible irritate a dog.

I think lupi harness is one of the most comfortable too. I have frenchie and when I was choosing I found a good buyer's guide. I bought one that is quickly attached becaude for my dog it is realyy important. He won’t sit still even for a minute, and it is also good to be able to put the harness on in a rush. Harness has few attachment points and doesn’t have too many straps or holes for dog to have to climb into. Our harness is also very bright and easily noticed and highly visible because I often take my dog on walks in the evening or at night.
