10 mo old pup with kidney failure.
Hello, I'm new here. I recently "took custody" of a pup who's owner did not want to treat his med condition because "it was too much trouble". He is a 10 mo old dachshund named Schatzi who chewed an electrical cord that destroyed half his tongue and all but ruined his kidneys. BUN 101, Creatine 7, Phos 5. He is on sub q fluids twice a day @ 100 ml each time, k/d canned dog food, an antibiotic, azodyl, and alum hydro. He is the sweetest little thing. Any info from anyone would be great.

The poor puppy, I am glad you are taking care of him. I wish I could give you some advice but my dog had cancer in his kidney and had to be put down. I know your does not have cancer. I hope someone here can give you some advice. What did the vet saw about the puppy chances of recovery ?

This puppy is getting loving care from you, it matters not how long he has or does not have Schatzi certainly appreciates that you are there for him.

He is a very happy little guy. If it weren't for his skinny little frame, you wouldn't know he was sick. Thanks for replying.

Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry for this pup, thank you for taking care of him.
The only thing I might think of is having a homeprepared diet formulated for him, if possible. In kidney disease, the quality of the protein is very important. This is the nutritionist who I use: http://www.betterdogcare.com/?page=nutrition |
