Pet food recall : DANGER !!!

I was just reading Menu Foods NEW recall list,Medi-Cal is included,but so far only cans.
However I would not feed Medi-Cal(in Vinnies case,dental) period anymore,I'll pay to have his teeth cleaned,rather than poisoning him:sad:

ahhh okay i apologize if this has already been asked but on the menufoods.com it says 'menu foods income fund' and i was wondering what does that mean??

The Menu Foods site was originally geared to investors and other businesses, which is probably why it says "Income Funds". They did have more pages on their site, but after the recall, they took them all down. You can still view them through internet archives, but it's mostly just info on their finances and stocks, and their contract signings with P & G and such.

I'm trying to find any cases of illness associated with Fancy Feast WET food.

Fortunately for the cats, I have been very unsuccessful! The very few references (3) I have seen are inconclusive, with other factors that more likely caused those cats to react. (people doing "instant" food changes, etc.)

If anyone is aware of something that might fit...could you send me a private message*

* If I get anything substantial, I'll post it. For now, with everyone's anxiety at an all-time high, it wouldn't be in anyone's interest to cause further - probably needless - worry and concern.

Rustycat,I've been checking too and so far no problem with Fancy Feast,the only canned food my cats will eat
Checking the not so savory ingredients,I cannot find any wheatgluten or any rice product,so I am assuming it is ok

Ingredients (Ocean Fish & Salmon Flavor): Brewers rice, poultry by-product meal, corn gluten meal, animal fat preserved with mixed-tocopherols (form of Vitamin E), ground yellow corn, soybean meal, animal digest, ocean fish, salmon, brewers dried yeast, phosphoric acid, calcium carbonate, natural and artificial flavors...

Is there any real meat in there? Looks like all dogs and cats and crow to me.

But yeah, watch out for the corn gluten.

In Fancy Feast canned,the only ingredients I don't know what it is,is Guar Gum.
No corn,wheat or other grains.
I would never feed my cats Fancy Feast dry,they get Orijen and I am finishing off a bag of Chicken-Soup,then only Orijen for free-feeding.
I've tried every good canned foods available,they just will not eat it and I would not feed 3 neutered males only dry food,ever,so we are stuck with Fancy Feast.

Therein lies part of the reason I brought this up. Actually, most varieties of WET FF DO have wheat gluten...that's what makes for the "gravy/sauce" effect.

Thanks to the woefully inadequate Canadian media coverage, the average person-on-the-street doesn't have a clue about what has been going on - since the initial recall.

Most users who are a little closer to the current recall discussions (more knowledgeable) seem to have switched to the non-gluten varieties for now, at least.

Three problems with this: one, there are far fewer non-gluten varieties; two, in smaller populated areas without access to "big" stores, those few varieties become even fewer; and three, of course, fussy kitties gobble up the gravy types but are more finicky with no gravy.

So - the result is that the "gluten-in" varieties are far more apt to be used by "average" people.

Again, if anyone knows of any suspected "cases", please PM me.

My cats do not eat any"cuts in gravy",they will eat nothing but the pate kind,so far Purina denies any contamination

For manufacturing at Purina's facilities in the United States, only a minority of the wheat gluten supply originates in China. Wheat gluten is a commodity ingredient sold on the global market. While the vast majority of grain products and ingredients for U.S. manufacturing are sourced within the United States, wheat gluten that meets our specifications is not available in sufficient quantities in North America.

Once again, PurinaŽ brand products available in Canada are not impacted by pet food recalls.

I also wonder about Temptation treats.I stopped giving it to my cats(they love it)after I saw wheatgluten in the list of ingredients
As of yet,any treat I buy they just scuff at....they want Temptation!!

I wouldn't feed the Temptations either. Aren't they preserved with BHT?

Ooops...I was in too much of a hurry when I typed that.

What I meant to say was "at least they don't use wheat gluten from China". And, I meant that they don't use it in their pate foods, as I was answering Chico and that's the only kind her cats and my cats will eat. But, I should have clarified it better. Thanks for pointing it out.
