So Proud Of Her!

Nathan and I are beaming doggy parents today.

We decided to take Skylar to the Guelph University Arboretum for a walk this afternoon and on the way we saw a huge outdoor antique market and decided to stop to look around (we've recently got into "antiqueing"). Since it's outdoor, dogs were allowed.

A bit of background: since we got Skylar in April we've been having issues with her on leash exuberance (I'm hesitant to call it aggression since she's not been vicious or anything). We've had private sessions with trainers and we managed to make it through a seven week basic OB class with her. She was much improved but still far from perfect when she saw another dog.

We've continued to work with her and try to put her in situations where she can succeed at being calm on leash, with much reward at the end.

So anyway, we decided to go into the market with her (outfitted in her Gentle Leader). We were a bit apprehensive since it was tight quarters and there were lots of delicate stuff and many breakables. We passed dog after dog with no incident. We were so happy. It was like she knew she had to be on her best behaviour!! We had many people stop to pet her (she would sit for them every time) and give her compliments on how well behaved she was.

Needless to say we were pretty proud of her this afternoon!

And as a side, last night when Nathan came to bed quite late (I was sound asleep), Skylar was on the bed with me and so was Angus (cat), which is completely unheard of!! Angus hates Skylar with every fibre of his being! So we're making progress on all fronts, yay pets!

Great news! Sounds like all your hard work is paying off! And I have to tell you I'm especially impressed....both of my two would be like bulls in a china shop - I wouldn't let them in 20 metres of any antique displays!!!

I must confess that we didn't take into consideration the consequences of one of her freak-outs (if she had one) until we were inside and saw how many glass items were on rickety tables. We could only see furniture from the road.

Nathan kept her close and navigated her like an expert.

Thanks! Yeah, I know, pictures. I've been lazy about taking pics lately. My camera was at my parents place for a month and I didn't even notice it wasn't here, that's how often I'm taking pictures these days. Watch the picture forum I'll put some up soon.
