Switching to a new food brand

How long does it usually take for a cat to take to a new food brand?

L'il Frankie,I find if my cats don't like a new food right away, they never will.
I always get sample-bags before buying a big bag.
I have 2 kinds of dry food my cats free-feed on,their main meals twice a day is canned.
Cats(at least mine!)will stubbornly refuse to eat food they don't like and can even get themselves in trouble by not eating.

Having the same problem here. For a while, my two have been eating Royal Canin Oral Sensitive as one of them had a throwing up problem with the old food.

Now, after some calculations that came from budget problems (we're planning our wedding), I'm realizing I spend more on their food than on my own. After talking to the great people at my local pet food store, I decided to switch to a less expensive, but still good quality food (Holistic Blend) and they don't seem to like it at all. When they used to eat 1 cup of food each, now they can only manage to eat 1/2 a cup each.

I tried to mix with the old food and gradually serve them only the new one, but they don't seem to like the smell or taste of it. It's only been about 3-4 days since the switch...should I wait it out and see if they get used to it or try a different food? Mixing in one or two Whiskas Temptations in the bottom seems to get them going, but I don't want them to get used to that.

What to do?

Maybe try mixing it with canned food...
I keep dry food always available to my cats, cats are not like dogs, they will not eat everything at once(at least the cats I've had),they are munchers and keep going back to their dishes.
In my view cats need canned food as much as dry.
Could you imagine eating the same dry stuff every day
