Birman Kitten

I just brought my 16 week Birman kitten home. She hasn't eaten, drank or gone to the bathroom in 24 hours! All she is doing is hiding! I'm starting to worry!
thank you for your replies so far. yes, she is in a confined room with all her belongings. she seems for like hiding in her litter box the most...which i am finding a bit odd! She is gorgeous and i am praying she will eventually come around. i did feed her a morsal of food from my hand which she ate. i'll keep you updated.

If she is running loose in the house/apartment, confine her to one room, with her food and the litter box and a nice bed (she might turn down the bed and hide in the closet, in which case try putting the bed in the closet). Too much space at the beginning is scary. Gradually, you can start leaving the door open so she can come and go as she feels safer. If you have another cat this process should last for a week or longer.
Is it possible she is eating and drinking at night? Kitten can't go long without fluids and nourishment.
Will she take food from your hand, that might jump start her.
She'll come around, just let her set the pace.
Of course, if she seems lethargic or ill in any way, the vet must see her immediately.

Sounds like your kitten is very frightened, and its not unusual behaviour she is showing.. a reaction to the stress of this upheaval.


Is she in a quiet room by herself? If you have everything there for her.. food, water and box. and just keep checking on her, talking softly to reassure her.. she should venture out on her own.

The hiding may continue for a while...but the not-eating and drinking shouldnt go on for too long.
If by tomorrow she has not picked up in this, I would call your vet about this. The fluids are especially important.

Did you get her from a Birman breeder? If so, you could try checking back with them for their advice too.

My Himy I got years ago hid for two days when I brought him home too. He was about 4 months old at the time. HE was such a timid kitty and turned out to be such a wonderful cat. Sounds like yours is the same. But I agree with the other posts here. He should be eating. Keep a close eye on that.
